The objective of the Labster Simulation Experiment was to learn about the basics of organic chemistry

and how this was connected with carbon, an essential element for all life. The experimenters had to
distinguish the organic compounds and confirm the pills had salicylic acid. They performed basic
chemical tests to ensure the functional groups in the medicine and learn about some reactions that
organic compounds could go through. They used the holo table to create 3D carbon molecules after
learning about hydrocarbons and hybridization. The experimenters determined hydrocarbons through a
bromine test, distinguishing a solution of unsaturated organic compounds as it would respond to a
double or triple bond. Another test was also made, called the ceric ammonium test. This test was used
to test the hydroxy (-OH). A dark red color was anticipated if mixed with alcohol or phenol. After
performing the experiment and evaluating the results, Compound A was the salicylic acid. The pills given
to Simon were risk-free.
