Remote Helmsman’s Display – a QuickGuide.

A remote computer with Helmsman’s Display and NaviPac can be configured in three different
ways. The following is a description of the method recommended by EIVA, the so-called ‘Semi-
dependent Remote’ method. Further details can be found in the document
‘A15_Remote_Helmsman_Installation.pdf’, that is available on the ‘EIVA Training and
Documentation Site’.

NaviPac
The installation and configuration of a semi-dependent remote installation is conducted along
the following guidelines:

1. Share a main NaviPac folder (C:\EIVA\Navipac) on the navigation (master) computer.

2. Perform a complete NaviPac installation, preferably latest version, on the remote
computer (similar to an ordinary installation on the navigation computer). Note that it is
recommended that the versions are identical on the remote and on the master.
3. Map a net-drive to point at the drive (folder) on the navigation computer where NaviPac
is installed, e.g. map N: to point at C:\Eiva\NaviPac on the navigation computer.

4. Manually edit the global environment variable $EIVAHOME on the remote computer to
point at $EIVAHOME on the navigation computer, but through the mapped net-drive,
e.g. N:\NaviPac (or just N: as is the case in the example).

5. Start the Helmsman’s Display from the Start menu, using the EIVA NaviPac menu item
‘Helmsman’s Display’ (not ‘Remote Helmsman’ if listed).
6. After start-up of the Remote Helmsman’s Display, enter the TCP/IP address of the
navigation computer in the manual connection dialogue (first time, select the menu-item
‘File – New’). When successfully connected, the signal on the signal-bar is green and
the remote Helmsman’s Display is receiving position updates etc. from the NaviPac
kernel.
