C. What is web-series? Does it maintain the standard of

traditional series / serial?

Web-series: Web series is a kind of internet based online videos.

Generally it’s published in episodic form and released on internet and
web television medium. Web-series can be watched on a range of
platforms and devices including desktops, laptops, tablets and
smartphones which run through Internet. But accessing those
platforms audience have to pay for this.

In another words web series are actually like a television episodes

while we are using web episodes on the web portal instead of
television episodes on the television channel. The only similarity is
that we are using remote access for tuning desire channels on
television and for the web series once have to search and select
content from the several uploaded contents by his own. YouTube are
not a web series platform cause its totally free portal. Thousands of
contents are contained in a web series platform and audiences have to
select his/her desire content. Anyone can access to the web series
platform from anywhere of the world, for this he doesn't need to have
the sensor of any particular country to have the content in the web
series. The most popular web series platform nowadays is Netflix.
There are so many also like amazon prime Video, hot star, iflix, ullu
10 | P a g e

etc. Some of wonderful web series are namely- Sherlock, Games of

throne, Narcos, The Witcher, Money heist, Prison break, House of
cards etc.

Traditional Values: In the global web series world the English and
Hindi are most popular to the viewers but now the Spanish, Turkish
and Iranian web series are holding the vast place in the web-series
world. Generally television episodes run with lower budget and it has
short episodes for limited audience. On another side the web series
are making with different pattern. Facilities are huge for web series
and episodes are lengthy also. They are invested huge budget for it. In
other way it can be said that web series are broadcasting that stories,
which stories demands are most have on. Any particular tradition or
local culture is not the major subject for the web series. It’s an open
place. The marketing side of the web series is so high that, we can't
make our proper space in it just because of lack of knowledge as well
as adequate finances. Similar to the Netflix, now a days Bangladesh
also making lots of web series. But in the first beginning of this way,
Bangladeshi web series are became into the highly criticized for it,
just because of avoiding local culture in it. Some film makers don’t
obey the culture and tradition of our country and making such web
series which is bring them into criticism. Producers are making these
without any care. There being so reckless. But the conscientious
11 | P a g e

people of our country raise their voice against such worry things.
They claim that the web series are full of nasty, vulgar, sexual and
obscenity which are disincentive to our indigenous culture. The
producers made the languages so vulgar in the web series which is
their actual capitalizing to gain the advantage from it.

However, there are different opinions also have on. According to

others, the web series is not a like a television. For accessing it, they
are must be completed so many steps which is look like a sensor
procedure to avail it. That is to say that, who is want to see what it
depends upon only him, this is actually once personal choice. In that
case if anyone wants to avoid any content, he may easily avoid that
content. But no one can force to delete or making such type of
content.

But in my personal opinion, I cannot support this type of opinion. At

present in the name of web series which are actually run, that is only
destroying our ethical motives, nothing else. In our social media or
social site the web series are actually going through the distortions
way, which is actually bringing our native culture into the danger. It
is not the appropriate way to say that the choice is your personal and
no one have to deleted the vulgar content from the web series. At
present most of the family enjoying movies or series on television by
12 | P a g e

using Internet. Most probably many of the family members become

an unfavorably situation in front of the family members while
enjoying the Series. This is actually embracing.

We have lots of cultural background and so many fantastic stories on

real life story which may be used in the web series. Producer’s can
show the real scenario of our present or past or may show about the
corruption, discrimination in the society, cultural background and so
many on it. But they did not using these ethical theme and choose the
vulgar characters to grave the attention. But this is actually not need
for our society. So finally observing the most recent situation of
these platforms we may say that, web series are not maintaining our
traditional standard at all.

We may make web series in accordance with our culture. But it is

necessary to have a certification system to certify the web series. We
shall use the real scenario in the web series, otherwise it is quite
impossible to steer the new system which may give us economic
support strongly.

D. A book that I like most:

Othello

By William Shakespeare.

Othello is a very nice book to read, although it is a quite tragic story by

William Shakespeare. I read this book one year ago. Although it was
Bangla version. The original name is The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor
of Venice. The story revolves around two main characters Othello- the
Moore commander of the Venetian army and Yago- his traitorous
subordinate commander. Written in the context of many diverse such as
racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and remorse. Othello is still
staged in professional and social theaters.
The play "Othello" is best known to literary scholars for its portrayal of
human jealousy. Throughout the play, the characters of kind nature have
made hasty decisions only on the basis of jealousy. The most notable of
these is Othello himself. In the early history, Othello is representing as
an ideal hero with all the admirable qualities. The purpose of
characterization in this way was to gain the sympathy of the audience.
But in the next part of the play, jealousy drives his decisions. As a result,
he became involved in wrong. Although Iago was the driving force
14 | P a g e

behind all of Othello's evil deeds in the play, Othello's jealousy pushed
him toward those evil deeds. When Iago says that Casio is spending too
much time with Othello's wife Desdemona, Othello gets angry. A series
of incidents followed, and Othello murdered his beloved. Shakespeare in
his great work has thoroughly analyzed the ugliest characteristic of man.
He perfectly articulates Othello's concept as a 'tragic hero'. Here Othello
is a hero who initially gains the favor of the audience, but gradually
becomes involved in unjust unethical work. As a result of his decisions
the audience gradually began to dislike him. It is not possible for the
audience to support him unless he is losing everything. Using the
concept of jealousy to make the concept of a tragic hero clear is one of
the many notable themes of this play. Reading Othello can offer you
matchless insights into male conscience and psychology. Above all, it
helps you understand the meaning of personal relationships in the
context of social dynamics and how these things shape our world.
Othello's love for Desdemona was real but not as real as Desdemona's
for Othello. In a world, where men dominate and a man believes another
man rather than his own woman, a wife's love finds it difficult to obtain
meaning and value. Iago is a villain who represents the poisonous male
dominated society and how the venom it has brought up for generations
is still its nemesis. Shakespeare proves that Desdemona's love wins but
if only Othello had retained his love for her and not felt troubled or
unsettled by Iago's treacheries, his life would have become heaven. The
15 | P a g e

tragic drama is a splendid work by Shakespeare and helps you peep into
a world where a woman's love is still struggling to find meaning.
Shakespeare's characters are amazing and so are his works but the theme
of this drama is just matchless and so is the author's candid treatment of
the topic. It all begins at a point where a war is over and the winner takes
home a beautiful wife as a trophy but keeps judging himself all his life
for if he ever deserved her. Shakespeare has poured all his love into the
drama for his readers to show how love for love can change the world.
