Activity Week 4

What I Can Do

Philippines depends primarily on fossil fuel as a main source of energy in different

mode of transportation. Since this source is a nonrenewable, it means there will be a
time that it will perish. As a STEM student, what can you do or suggest solving this
problem?

As a student, my knowledge and ability are limited. But I have a suggestion that might
help solve this problem. We can reduce the consumption of fossil fuel used as fuel in
transportation by using electricity as fuel instead. Electricity is an energy source that is
renewable unlike fossil fuels that might perish someday. Why is it renewable? Because
it can be generated almost infinitely using different methods. Electricity can be
generated using wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, nuclear, and many more. Let’s take the
Tesla for example. The Tesla is an electric-powered vehicle that was made by Elon
Musk. The Tesla is completely dependent on electricity and does need any kind of fossil
fuel. If we can invent and develop electric-powered mode of transportation here in the
Philippines, then we can reduce the consumption of fossil fuel. Though it’s easier said
than done, it’ll be worth it once it is made. Thus, with the use of electricity we can solve
the problem of depending primarily on fossil fuel as a main source of energy in different
mode of transportation.
