Drama classes and their importance in learners´ life

To begin with, I have chosen drama classes as the subject to be introduced to the
schedule of school for the following reasons:
First and foremost, drama classes are activities which help learners to act on the
spot, boost their imagination and creativity. Students make creative choices, they
think of new ideas and interprete familiar material in new ways. Secondly, drama is
based on practice rather than theory. Students act roles from different situations, time
periods and cultures which promotes compassion and tolerance for other pupils´
feelings. Their aim is to train learners like professional actors. Drama classes boost
their memory and communication skills. Learners use memorization techniques to
cope up with poems, stories and long texts. Furthermore, drama classes build team
spirit and leadership. Students are involved in different collaborative activities which
unite them into a group. Learners become more confident in expressing their thoughts
and more concentrated on their studies. They can share their thoughts with their peers
even if they have different points of view. Drama develops critical thinking and
decision making skills. Students can get the knowledge how to react and behave in
a certain situation. It is crucial for every learner to have drama classes because they
improve reading comprehension. Also, students stay more engaged in the learning
process. They maintain better attendance records. I would like to mention the words
of the United Nations public relations officer who proves that drama classes help
learners to be more successful at studies. According to Yasmeena El Sabeh´ s words,
students who were involved in drama performance scored an overage of 65, 5 points
higher on the verbal component and 35.5 points higher in the math component of the
Sat.
To sum up, it is essential for every school learner to participate in various drama
activities because he or she can develop critical thinking, decision making skills,
collaborative skills, reading comprehension skills, confidence, communicative skills
and others.
