STATIVE VERBS

Stative verbs are a list of verbs which are only used in simple tenses. These verbs are usually about
liking or disliking something, or about a mental state but not about an action.

Agree We both agree that you need to study more
Appear You always appear when something bad is about to happen
Believe She believes in ghosts
Belong That book belongs to Lewis
Concern This problem concerns you
Consist Bread consists of flour, water and yeast
Contain The envelope contained a letter
Depend It might depend on the circumstance
Deserve You deserve to pass the subject
Disagree I disagreed with his opinion about recycling
Disliked I have disliked artichokes for years
Doubt I doubted about where to go last summer
Feel (=have an opinion) I don’t feel you should drink alcohol
Fit This blazer fits you well
Hate I have always hated cockroaches
Hear I heard what they were saying about Peter
Imagine I imagine you must be exhausted
Impress He impressed the audience with his performance
Include This course includes the workbook
Involve The project involves all the partners to work together
Know I have known Julie for years
Like I like listening to rock music
Love I love pizza
Matter It doesn’t matter if you don’t come
Mean What do you mean by saying I am stupid?
Measure (=be long) This window measures 120cm
