Astela

Astela is a relatively small island community not far from the northern coast of Lokeed. Not many people live here, maybe 3000-4000
people only there and it is mainly a community on people that barter, nit really using any forms of currency.

It’s People
The majority of its people came from other parts of the world, looking to get away from something or someone usually, but here they
felt safe and welcomed by the natives who were a small tribe of Merfolk living on its beaches.

The merfolk welcomed these newcomers to their little island nation. They themselves had no need for money or wealth and so this
custom of bartering of skills and general goods became common practice among the Astelans.

Over the next hundred years since 196/AE29, small groups of misfortunates came here seeking a new life and that is what they got.
Everyone’s history, past crimes and memories were forgotten and began anew. Racism was not an issue here because there was a large
variety of races and everybody did their part to help the small community they lived in. Whether you were a half-orc or a reptilian
didn’t matter when you came here.

It’s Lifestyle
As mentioned, the somewhat “law” of the island was barter and doing what you could for the community based on your skills. Being a
hunter, so you would hunt for meat and trade the skins for something you didn’t have, such as maybe furniture from a carpenter.

The native Merfolk here also traded what they had for other unusual goods such as fur clothing from the new inhabitants. For a long
time however, the Merfolk provided natural medicines to the new comers in exchange for other things.

It’s Providing farm

There was a family that started a farm on this island and grew your basic wheat and corn for all sorts of purposes. However, they did
not ask for anything to trade with their crops, they would saddle up their carts and send them off to the small different villages and
such and just hand out their crops, for free.

They had more than enough to provide for themselves and decided to give the rest every year to those that needed it more than they
did. Since then, the majority of the island depended on this family to provide the bulk of the food for the island, and the family happily
did this.

But it did not last for too long, for 18 years it was going smoothly until something started to happen to the crops, and they ground had
begun to lose its fertility and less crops every year was being produced. This resulted in a somewhat “Betrayal of trust” among the
island and this family.

It is still unknown what had caused the crops to falter like the way they did.
