Data Review

Questions to be answered about

Analytics and AI-driven enterprises thrive in the Age of With: The culture catalyst

Data Collected - What do you know about the data that is used to develop the findings and
inferences that are being presented in this document:
1. What is the size of the sample?
It says they surveyed 1048 executives, so it could be 1048 but I am guessing that is the
population. It also says they eliminated 928 potential respondents because they don't
interact with analytics so answer could be 1048-928=120 execusitves.
2. Who were the participants sampled? (What types of organizational roles did they have?)
The 1048 executives who work for U.S based companies who have 501 or more
employees. They are senior managers or higher. They could be part of the C-Suite, such
as CEO,CFO,CTO. Some are senior vice-presidents
3. What do you know about the organizations the participants came from?
They have more than 501+ employees. Most executives don't believe their companies are
insight driven. Most executives aren't comfortable accessing or using data.
4. How was the data collected?
An online survey was conducted in 2019 of 1048 executives who interact with, or create,
or use analytics
5. What is the margin of error for this data?
The margin of error is said to be ±3.03%
6. What is the confidence interval?
I am honestly not sure what the answer is. My most likely answer is [.27,.43]. Could also
be [.321,.379]. Could also be [.621,.679]

Review the data and its utility Using the answers from above:
7. How would you identify the population the sample in this data intended to represent?
I would say the sample is intended to define the population of all executives (companies
as well) in the U.S who work for a company with 501+ employees whose company uses
analytics or the large companies in the U.S who are insight driven organization. The
description is a mouthful, but this could be better. The sample is defining the population
of the organizations with 501+ who are insight driven organizations.
8. How do the sample and population described relate to the hypothetical company you
work for?
The hypothetical company I work for has 501+ plus employees so that is similar. The
company seems to be currently not an insight driven organization but they want to
become an insight driven organztion through the use of statisitics and probability.
Currently they are like the majority of the sample surveyed because a majority of
excecutives said they don't believe they are insight driven but the company I work for
seems to want to change just like how some of the executves repsonded so there is

similarity there. Our company seems to want to mature their analytics skills and so does
the executives surveyed. Both the surveyed companies and our company want to use
probailites and statistics to make the companies more profitable, and how it can lead to
division success so there is similarity there. I would say they are very similar.
Identifying the Data in the Document
Go through the document and highlight any place that the data is presented in the text. Then
identify the most important three to five points that are most important to the argument you
will have to make and briefly describe how they can be used in your argument
1. 37% of executives place their companies in the top two categories of the IDO maturity
scale. Atleast they were honest on the survey, because on an ad, they aren't telling their
customers that. They would write something along the lines of we are the most insight
driven company you've ever seen. I will use it to make a point about how our company
could be different from the majority of other companies which will allow us to stay ahead
of other companies. Companies like to say they are different from others so we might as
well actually try to be different and special.
2. 67% of executives said they aren't comfortable accessing or using data from their tools
and resources. These executives were brutally honest on that survey because this is quite
a disturbing stat considering they have the data and tools, but they just aren't willing to
use it to improve. I will use it to make a point how we most likely already have the data
and tools, so we should make good use out of it to make the company more profitable.
3. The CEO is the lead champion of analytics in 29% of the companies surveyed and those
companies are 77% more likely to have significantly exceeded their business goals. I will
use this stat to show that when companies have a strong leader who likes to be the leader
of an insight driven organization with employees who are insight driven, that we are far
more likely to significantly exceed our business goals
4. 75% of survey repsondendents report that their organzation's analytical maturity has
increased over the past year. I would use this point to show that we are lacking and
staying a step behind other organizations. I would use the stat to send a feeling of
urgency that we need to become an insight driven organziation before we get left behind
and other companies start exceeding us profit wise.
5.
There are 6 figures in the document identify briefly what each one tells you.  And identify the
two you think are most important to supporting the argument you will be making in the
memorandum.
Figure 1. Explains and shows the Insight-Driven Maturity scale. It basically describes the
different levels of analtyics that companies are using, from low maturity to high maturity
of analtyics usage.
Figure 2. The figure shows the importance of business analytics and how close it is rated to
reputation and risk management which are different skills but they are very important and

no compnay could probabilty survive without a decent reputation management(especially
in 2021) and managing risk. Business analytics is rated as average importance but rated
close to two very vital parts of an organziation
Figure 3. Figure 3 identifies business process improvements and understanding and
improving customer customer experience top the list of use cases for analytics
Figure 4. Figure 4 shows the link between insight driven culture and business performance.
It shows how with stronger analytics cultures, a higher percentage will exceed their goals
and vice versa.
Figure 5. Figure 5 explains how the broadest responsibility for analytics correlates most
with exceeding business goals. The more people are involved and undertand analytics,
the higher the percentage of comapnies that exceeded goals and vice versa
Figure 6. Figure 6 shows how companies approach analytics. It shows what perentage of
each maturity was described by the executives. Example:40% have analytical aspirations
maturity level while this 'one' has this level of maturity.
Two most important and why
Figure 4 because it show the managers how there is a link between companies exceeding
their goals and that occurs when there is a high level of maturity for business analytics. This
should be able to convince them to use a better analytics culture because it will improve
profitbaility and performance.
Figure 2 because it shows a high rating and having a close rating to reputation management
and managing risk. It is also pretty close hiring and engaging the right talent and a company
doesn't exist without hiring people so this should also help convince the managers that
business analytics is very important.
