Research Instrument

The main data-gathering instrument in this study is a standardized

questionnaire which will be constructed by the researchers themselves. A

standardized questionnaire is one that is written and administered in such a way

that all participants are asked the same questions in the same format and their

responses are recorded in the same way. Using this instrument can be

considered valid and reliable by consulting for experts’ judgment: the adviser,

research professor, and panel members. The experts will be given sample copies

of the prepared instrument for them to evaluate the items and sub-items. Before

finalizing, the instrument will be revised and all the suggestions gathered were

included. The research instrument consists of three Parts.

Part l of the research instrument comprises of the respondents'

demographic profile, which will include their name, age, sex, type of secondary

school they graduated from, parents' educational achievement, and parents'

occupation.

Part ll of the research instrument comprises a ten-question answer sheet

with corresponding boxes in which the letter of the correct answer will be

inserted.

Part III of the research instrument is the reading passages. It is a set of

texts that the respondents will read. There are three reading sections to be read,

and each one contains a series of questions. There are ten questions in all. The

respondents will have an hour to complete the questionnaire.
