Juliet walks down the country road until she comes to the PHONE
STORE-
JULIET
What’s your cheapest phone?
SALESMAN
Hmmm, let’s see...(he pulls out a
few cheap flip phones and looks at
them) We’ve got these, all
starting at 30 for the phone and
15 a month...
Juliet sighs and opens her backpack. She takes out a wad of
crumpled cash after fishing around for a bit and puts it on the
counter. The salesman stares.
SALESMAN
You sure you don’t wanna just
trade in your old phone? You know,
for a smarter one? I could give
you a 25% discount.
JULIET
No that’s ok I- I’ve never had
phone. I just need a simple one.
Salesman shrugs and begins counting the cash she put on the
counter. Cash register sound.
Juliet is on the bus again, holding her new flip phone and a
folded piece of paper with her new phone number written on it.
She looks around the bus. We see lots of ordinary people just
doing ordinary things.
Suddenly she sees a middle aged woman with short blond hair

from the back, and we enter into a panicked flashback.

MOM
You don’t have the right to- to
go prying around for answers, you
ungrateful little brat. I am your
mother, I raised you, and you
should treat me like I deserve!
You were not adopted, and I don’t
care what you think you saw or
heard or found. The fact that you-
that you don’t trust your own
mother to- to tell you the truth,
that you think that I would lie to
you... is so ungrateful. You won’t
be leaving the house again, you
are going to start working 40
hours a week at your job so that
we can pay the bills, and you will
not question anything I tell you.
Ever. Understood?
Look back at the blond woman, who did not move and doesn’t look
anything like MOM except for the hair. Juliet blinks and shakes
the memory off. She opens her bag and puts the phone and piece
of paper inside, then gets comfortable to doze off.
Time lapses and Juliet wakes up after feeling the bus jostle to
a stop. She sits up sleepily and looks out the window, then
sees its her stop. She gets off the bus.
Juliet walks down the street until she reaches a shoe shop.

She looks around, makes sure she’s not being watched, and goes
inside.
We follow MOLLY (35), around the shop as she locks up, and
cleans.
She enters the BACK ROOM, sees a shoe box on a side table and
not on the shelves. She picks it up.
COWORKER
Oh is that the box that was on
the desk?
MOLLY
(Looks at box)
Oh, yeah. I was just going to put
it away.
COWORKER
Yeah, that reminds me...actually
yesterday this girl came in asking
for you. Before she left she
wanted me to ask you specifically
to find that pair of shoes in
another size, for some reason.
Seemed kind of neurotic.
MOLLY
Ok...
COWORKER
Well, anyways. I’m clocking out
for the night. Here are the keys.
Coworker hands Molly keys, then heads out the back door.
COWORKER (O.S.)
Night Molly!
MOLLY
Night!
We see her pull out a baby blanket with one hand, box still in
the other. Suddenly, her face changes to shock.

YOUNG MOLLY (17) has just given birth, exhausted, but smiling
at the newborn in her arms. Baby is wrapped in the same
blanket, embroidered “Juliet”
To YOUNG MOLLY (17) with tears pouring down her face. The baby
is crying in a stranger’s arms. We see the baby is wrapped in
the embroidered blanket again. Molly’s mother holds her arm,
gently pulling her toward the door.
YOUNG MOLLY
(Almost hysterically)
I love you, baby! I love you-I’ll
come back, I promise! I promise
I’ll come back!
YOUNG MOLLY completely breaks down into her mother’s arms, and
they exit the adoption center.
Flashback to present.

Looking lost, she ruffles through the rest of her backpack and
takes out some papers, feeling and reading them. They’re her
real adoption papers, with Molly’s name on them.
Quickly she puts the papers away after looking around nervously
again. Accepting her current situation, she sets up a sleeping
spot in the alley with her spare jacket and her backpack.
Laying down, she holds the phone close and dozes off.
Quickly she rushes over to look at it, and as she’s reading she
gasps. On one side of the note is Juliet’s phone number, and
the side she’s reading says, “Ran away. Being followed.
Juliet.” Molly turns over the note and sees the phone number.

MOLLY
Juliet? Oh my-Juliet?
JULIET
M-Molly? (Beat) Mom?
MOLLY
Yes, yes it is, oh my baby, my
baby!
MOLLY
Juliet, where are you baby? Are
you safe? I’m coming for you!
JULIET
I’m in an alley- I- travelled
east by bus after leaving the shoe
store.
JULIET
I’m on 5th Park Avenue, about two
hours from your store.

Juliet begins walking down the street, trying to figure out her
surroundings.
MOLLY
I’ll be right there, baby. Right
there.
Molly enters the car and begins driving. She places the baby
blanket in the passenger seat.
Molly’s car drives down the road, time passes, the sky gets
darker.
MOLLY

Juliet...
