Happy New Year Marlin Family!!

Welcome back! I hope you are all ready for more fun learning. January is the month for new beginnings.
Start the year 2022 with goals to improve your reading, language arts, and math skills. We will focus on
identifying and clarifying the most essential content knowledge and skills for all subjects to align
expectations. This will be done with our Priority Standards, Skills, and Topics better known as the PSST’s.
We will continue to regularly assess students in the classroom, utilize data to identify student needs and
monitor progress.

I encourage you to read with your child(ren) and enjoy the time spent learning together. Make everyday this
year full of fun learning moments. A healthy way to keep your child’s social and emotional health in check is
to continue to ask about their school day, say positive praises, and give them a hug.
Thank you for your continued support for your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Valencia

Let’s get our year started in the right direction! But which way is that? Our mini-Marlins will be introduced to
the world of CODING by exploring directions with maps, arrows, movement games, and more! We will start
with no-tech or low tech activities and work our way up to coding with games on devices. Simple Coding will
help your child delve deeper into the standard of creative problem solving and divergent thinking as they
think of creative ways to overcome obstacles.

Happy New Year 2022 Marlins,

The start of the new year is a great time to help your children focus on forming good
habits. The American Academy of Pediatrics provides the following list of ideas for you
to talk to your children:
I will drink reduced-fat milk and water most days. Soda and fruit drinks are only for
special times.
I will take care of my skin by putting on sunscreen before I go outdoors on bright,
sunny days. I will try to remember to stay in the shade whenever possible and wear a
hat and sunglasses, especially when I'm playing sports.
I will try to find a sport (like basketball or soccer) or an activity (like playing tag,
jumping rope, dancing, or riding my bike) that I like and do it at least three times a
week.
I will always wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter, or skateboard.
I will wear my seat belt every time I get in a car. I'll sit in the back seat and use a
booster seat until I am tall enough to use a lap/shoulder seat belt.
I will tell an adult about bullying that I see or hear about to do what I can to help
keep school safe for everyone.
I will keep my personal information safe and not share my name, home address,
school name, or telephone number on the Internet. Also, I'll never send a picture of
myself to someone I chat with on the computer without asking my parent if it is
okay.
I will try to talk with my parent or a trusted adult when I have a problem or feel
stressed.
COVID-19 vaccinations for students are not mandatory but having a person's
vaccination status on hand is valuable during contact tracing post-exposure to an
individual with COVID-19. If your child is vaccinated against COVID-19, please
provide a copy of your child's updated immunization record. Thank you in advance
for providing this voluntary information.

I wish you all a healthy and prosperous new year.

Sincerely,
Nurse Aaron
