REFLECTION PAPER

People with mental health problems are also a cause of concern in the Philippines. It emerged as an
important public health concern in recent years. Mental health is very important for living a stable, and
healthy life. It comprises of emotional, social, and psychological well-being of a person. Way back 2020, I
encountered the worst thing a woman could ever experience in life (I will not specifically mention what
it is, as it is too personal, and I am still finding ways to cope with it). I was devastated that time as people
blamed me for what happened and keep on telling me that I am (pa-victim). I’ve been looked down,
talked about, and shamed by people who barely know me. Every day after that incident happened, I
cried and torture myself by not eating and not attending class. I was afraid to open my social media
accounts for the reason that, there are people who made dummy accounts, used my pictures, pretend
that they are me, and keep on posting inappropriate things to make me look like a dirty and bad person.
I came to the point wherein, I tried to end my life by attempting to hang myself (I attempted to do this
for about 4 times) as I am losing hope to regain my morality as a woman. I can’t open up to people and
can’t even look at myself. Gladly, my family did not get tired of me. They have helped me with my fight
and help me get the justice I deserve. I am lucky enough to have my family as my support system. At
first, I am shy to open up with how I really feel but I witnessed how patient and understanding they are
to me and with that being stayed, I was able to share my pain to them and listen to their advice. Day by
day, I can see the progress that I have made. One step at a time I take new steps. I am starting to accept
what happened and learned to love myself again. I barely have that sleepless nights and panic attacks. I
am lucky, indeed. To have people who did not give up on me. The guest speaker which is Ms. Edelyn
Flores was right, we just need someone who is patient enough to listen to our problems and eager to
help us with what we are facing. She was right when she said that we can’t always rely with other
people we must also help ourselves as we know more about us more than other people do. It takes time
to heal, and if we feel like we can’t control mental problem we can always seek help to the
professionals. We should not be ashamed for it, it is difficult at first, but time will come you will be
healed and thank yourselves for seeking help. Take Therapy! Heal from within.
