Dehydrating breathers
designed to absorb moisture
Moisture is a leading cause of transformer aging. Avoiding moisture ingress
into the transformer is paramount to avoiding outage and maximizing
the lifetime of the equipment.

— Dehydrating breathers are designed to absorb Application:

03
Dehydrating breather moisture caused by the intake of air into the • Liquid-filled distribution and power
transformer during thermal contraction of transformers with conservator
the oil mass. • On-load tap-changers

Dehydrating breathers contain salts of Benefits and features:

chemically pure silicon oxide, called silica gel, • Field-proven reliability
with colored indicator, which absorb the • External hardware in AISI 304 stainless steel
moisture and atmospheric humidity and • Robust design
prevent oil contamination. • Easy installation
• Compliant with EN 50216-5/A2 Standard
During its normal operation the salt starts
changing color due to its moisture absorption,
the color variations are shown on the
dehumidifier label. At this point, the salt
contained in the dehydrating breather must
be replaced with new salt or can be regenerated.

It is possible to carry out a regeneration in order

to dry back the salt. This operation can be easily
made by heating the silica gel at a temperature
between 120°C and 150°C, until its color changes
to the original one.
