SKAKOTROL

1.5 EMC Approvals

The SKAKOTROL print and associated plug has been tested according to
the IEC 801-4 (CE) industry standard. The prints conform with the
prescribed level of 2KV on the mains cable and 1-2 KV on the signal cable.

In connection with radiation, the limits valid for the housing and industry
standard are observed.

All measuring is made with a standard metal board (H x W x D = 400 x 400

x 260 mm).

In order to observe the limits for conducted emission, a filter should be

installed in the supply lines to the control. At the same time, screened cables
should be used from the control unit to the vibrator. The cable should be
provided with braided screen and short “pigtails” in both ends (max. 2-5
cm). SKAKO VIBRATION recommends the use of the following filters
(section 1.6):

1.6 Noise filter

Type FN 351-8-29 8A/440 V AC
Type FN 351-16-29 16A/440 V AC
Type FN 351-25-33 25A/440 V AC
Type FN 351-36-33 36A/440 V AC
Type FN 351-50-33 50A/440 V AC

Type FN 350-8-29 8A/250 V AC

Type FN 350-12-29 12A/250 V AC
Type FN 350-20-29 20A/250 V AC
Type FN 350-30-33 30A/250 V AC
Type FN 350-55-33 55A/250 V AC

Installation of the filter must be carried out carefully in order to obtain the
maximum effect of the filter, i.e. good frame connection, short wires from
the supply to the SKAKOTROL plug, and a good earth connection.

Avoiding screened cables is possible, if desired. Another type of filters must

then be used. These filters are available in various sizes depending on the
load:

1.7 Voltage measuring

As the SKAKOTROL produces a pulsating voltage, it is very important to
be aware of what exactly is being measured, so that the measurings may be
compared. For this purpose, a list showing what to measure with digital
instruments without RMS, with digital instruments with RMS, and with
moving-iron instruments, respectively, has been made. These measurings
cannot be used for regulation of capacity. Capacity is set by SKAKO
VIBRATION by means of normalized vibrators.

SKAKOTROL

2. SKAKOTROL Controls
2.1 Description
2.1.1
The SKAKOTROL print is an electronic control intended for the control
and regulation of an electromagnetic SKAKO VIBRATION vibrator. By
means of a potentiometer is it possible to regulate the vibrator continuously.
It is also possible to regulate the vibrator by means of an external signal of
0-20 mA or 0-10 V.

The SKAKOTROL print is voltage stable within a voltage variation of ±

10% of the rated voltage with a stability of ± 2%. The maximum and
minimum voltage area are indicated on the type sign (i.e. SKAKOTROL
C400 360-440V).

With installation of the control print SKAKOPAC it is possible to change

the external control signal to other values, see description about the
SKAKOPAC control print.

The SKAKOTROL is delivered as an entire control unit containing the

SKAKOTROL print, relay for on/off, breaker, switch, potentiometer, fuses,
terminals etc. In controls in which external control signals are used, the
selection of potentiometer regulation or 0-20mA/0-10 V signal regulation
takes place by means of a switch.

The SKAKOTROL is delivered either incorporated in an electro-board/box

(IP55) or as installation module intended for incorporation in existing
electro-board.

2.2 Installation
2.2.1
Before connecting the SKAKOTROL with the supply it should be checked
that the type sign on the electroboard/box is in accordance with the actual
supply. The supply must be frequency stable. By deviations larger than +/-
0.5 Hz, frequency compensation must be installed (see section 3.4).

2.2.2
If the potentiometer for capacity regulation is moved away from the control
box, the cable must be at least a screened cable of 3x0.5mm2. The cable is
grounded at one end with short "pig-tails" (max. 2-5 cm). At cable length
larger than approximately 80m an isolation amplifier must be inserted. This
may also be the case with cable lengths shorter than approximately 80m due
to noise entering the cable.

Data Sheet / Operating Instructions 056189gb
Page 7/27
SKAKOTROL

2.2.3
At isolation tests on the mains (Megger) the print card must always be taken
out of the control box.

2.2.4
The control box must be installed in a place providing the possibilities for
checking the results of the capacity regulations. Furthermore it should be
sheltered from rain and material splashes. The SKAKOTROL is constructed
for operation in a temperature area between 0° - + 40°. When installing
SKAKOTROL controls IP00 these must be placed together with the main
current - if possible in a separate field. The protective wire from the
SKAKOTROL plug must be as short as possible, as this also is used for the
bypass of the noise (wire length max. 5 cm).

The installation instructions valid in the place where the SKAKOTROL is

installed must be observed. This is also applies to the installation of the
safety switch/repair switch. These are not to be used for start/stop, unless
the switch has a built-in auxiliary contact used in the on/off circuit, on the
SKAKOTROL print.

About extra protection: If you wish to use earth leak circuit breaker
this/these must be intended for pulsating direct and alternating current
(HPFI).

When noise filter is used in the supply lines for the SKAKOTROL control
system, a PFI switch should be applied instead of a HPFI switch, as leak
currents exceeding 30 mA may appear.

When using a remote control potentiometer the cable between

IMPORTANT potentiometer and SKAKOTROL must be 1,5 sq. mm screened cable
(the screen with earthing at one end only could e.g. be of lead).

The switch built into or delivered with the box is a special switch for which
the following must be observed:

Start: Main voltage to be connected before pilot voltage.

Stop: Pilot voltage to be disconnected before main voltage.

This must be respected, i.e. ON/OFF regulation must not take place within
the main voltage.

If above switch is not used, ON/OFF regulations must be done as shown in

the diagram, as switching on and off. If using a "Megger", the printed circuit
must be withdrawn.

2.2.5
As the cable length and the dimension between the SKAKOTROL and the
vibrator influence the stroke length of the vibrator, the values in the
following table must be observed.
The table shows the cable dimension between the SKAKOTROL and the
vibrator. The table is based on a maximum allowable loss of stroke length
of 7% in consequence of the cable dimensioning.

When installing the control print SKAKOPAC is it possible to compensate

for the cable length and the square. Hereby you may increase the cable
length. See description of the SKAKOPAC control card.

2.3 Converter
By converter operation the external control signal must be galvanic
separated (hanging) . + and - must only be connected to + and - on the
current generator.

2.3.1
If the SKAKOTROL control is provided with an external control signal, it is
possible to change between manual operation and external control signal by
means of a switch:

Input impedance: Rin >10 KOhm

By 0mA/0V the capacity is 0, however, with a risk of insignificant material

drip.

Consequently the ON/OFF signal must be used, when you want to be

absolutely sure that the capacity is 0.

At 4 mA/2V the capacity is normally less than 4%.

NOTE The stroke length and thus the capacity as a function of the input signal may
be changed by installing the SKAKOPAC.

2.4 Testing and troubleshooting

The SKAKOTROL print for 50/60HZ may be acquired with one or two
thyristors depending on the type of vibrator. In controls with SKAKOTROL
print for 100D vibrators 25/30 Hz the thyristor 2 is replaced by a triac. In
the drawing of the SKAKOTROL print the components which are only on
models with 2 thyristors or with 1 thyristor + 1 triac are shown in dotted
lines.

In controls with SKAKOTROL print intended for 2 or more 100D vibrators

the thyristors/triacs are moved to the external heat sinks.

On the SKAKOTROL print several light emitting diodes are placed. These
may be used for trouble-shooting and they have the following significance:

No. D16-D17 2 red light diodes

These two diodes emit light, when power on the
SKAKOTROL print. If they do not emit light, check the
power supply (fuses, main switch etc.). If one emits light
then the print is short-circuited and must be replaced

No. D5 Red light diode

This lights strongly when the ON/OFF circuit is open.
When the ON/OFF circuit is closed, the light intensity of
the diode will change. When the potentiometer is reading
0% the diode emits light with medium intensity, and at
100% there is no light. If this does not function, check the
ON/OFF circuit and the potentiometer circuit.

No. D11-D13 2 red light emitting diodes

These indicate that the thyristors are being trigged (the
vibrator is operating). The diodes are turned off, when the

ON/OFF circuit is open. If this is not the case, check the

wires between the print and the thyristors or the triac.

D11 = Trigger impulse for thyristor/TRIAC channel 2

D13 = Trigger impulse for thyristor channel 1.

No. D3 Green light emitting diode, D3

This should never emit light constantly. If this is the case
the print must be replaced.

No. J2 Plug for installation of the SKAKOPAC.

IMPORTANT When the SKAKOPAC is not installed a bug must be positioned between
the two first legs towards the centre of the print (leg nos. 8 and 9). See the
drawing at the end of the instructions. If this is not the case, the print will
not function correctly.

2.4.1
When the mentioned items are checked, the operation is still irregular and
the fault supposed to be found in the SKAKOTROL, this may be checked
the following way:

a) In the control box the output wires for the vibrator coil are removed
from the terminals. The terminals are marked as follows :

V1A and V1B for control of the vibrators with 1 coil. V1A and V1B as
well as V2A and V2B for control of vibrators with 2 coils, etc.

A 220 V filament lamp is placed on the terminals (by 380 V max. 500 V
plants 2 serial lamps) min. 40 W, max. 150 W. The terminals are
checked two by two.

b) The service switch of the control box is connected, and the capacity
regulation turned from 0 to maximum.

When the control is OK, the filament lamp emits light continuously
from weak to strong in accordance with the regulation. This corresponds
to an output voltage from approximately 50 V to approximately 175 V
in 220 V and 240 V plants. From approximately 80 V to 300 V in 380 V
and 400 V plants. This is when using a moving-iron instrument. See
appendix 5 about voltage measuring with different types of instruments .

c) If the lamp light is very strong during the entire capacity regulation
corresponding to an output voltage of 220 V (380 V) on the terminals,
then the thyristor is short-circuited. If this is the case we recommend that
you replace the entire control card. In controls in which the

Data Sheet / Operating Instructions 056189gb
Page 11/27
SKAKOTROL

thyristors/triac are positioned on external heat sinks, these must be

replaced.

d) If the lamp does not emit light - that is the output voltage is 0 - the cause
is that the thyristor, the diodes in controls with 4 coils respectively
does/do not conduct .

The cause may be found the following way:

e) Check the power supply and the fuses.

f) Check the connections of the print card.

Press the print card into the base.

g) Check the wiring and tighten the terminals.

h) Possible diodes must short-circuited. If the lamp lights then, the diodes
must be replaced.

i) The connections b2-b4 on the print card are to be short-circuited. If the

lamp emits light, the fault will have to be found in the wiring, the base,
the main switch or the potentiometer.

Examine the parts mentioned and replace if faults are detected.

j) The slider of the potentiometer is positioned in the centre. Above the

connection legs of the potentiometer must be 2.5V. The slider is then
short-circuited to first one side and then the other respectively of the
connection legs of the potentiometer. If the lamp lights in one of the
situations, the potentiometer must be replaced.

k) If the lamp does not emit light when testing on of the items e to j , the
print should be replaced.

l) If the control does not work after passing through the procedure
described, please contact our technicians who can provide you with the
necessary technical assistance .

2.4.2
If the SKAKOTROL print has an external control signal, please check if the
control regulated in manual operation. If not, check the items a-l.

The control regulates in manual operation but not in automatic operation.

Check if a 0-20 mA signal or a 0-10 V signal enters the terminals, and that
the wires are correctly installed.

3. SKAKOPAC
3.1 Description

The SKAKOPAC is a control and regulation card for installation on the

SKAKOTROL.

A complete SKAKOPAC contains the following functions:

1. Regulation curves
2. Frequency curves
3. Cable length compensation
4. Common control

3.2 Installation of SKAKOPAC

At first it should be examined that the SKAKOPAC can be used on the
SKAKOTROL. Then remove the bug from the plug of the SKAKOTROL,
and install the SKAKOPAC with the print holder

3.3 Regulation Curves

This is used to change the input signal from the regulation potentiometer/0-
20mA/0-10V to another curve shape.

Data for these curves are placed in the E-prom "Set point" and may contain
as much as 16 curves.

The following curves are always fixed:

No. 0: No change of signal

No. 1-15: Customer/machine specified curves

3.4 Frequency Compensation

The SKAKO VIBRATION vibration machines installed with
electromagnetic vibrators are calibrated for operation in a fixed mains
frequency, 50 or 60 Hz. Deviations of more than +0.5 Hz may cause
damage to the machine, but a deviation of -0.5 Hz means a considerable
deterioration of the capacity of the machine.

The frequency compensation curves are intended for operation within the
frequencies 49-55 Hz or 59-64 Hz. If the frequency exceeds these limits, the
machine may be damaged by continuous operation. If the frequency is lower
than these limits, the capacity of the machines will be considerably reduced.

As compensation for the cable length a resistance may be mounted between

legs SB and 14B behind the plug. The SKAKOPAC print is prepared to
have a compensation mounted on the print, but this facility must not be

SKAKOTROL

applied. The compensation resistance must always be mounted behind

the plug, in this way the compensation will also work after a possible
replacement of the SKAKOTROL.

The compensation possibilities appear from the below table:

Please note that the resistance is in kOhm!

Vibrator 8D/300V-50 Hz 20D/300V-50Hz 50/100D

140-200 m 350 650 - 270 1100 - -
200-300 m 270 450 - 220 600 - -

The table indicates an approximate value for the cable compensation

resistance in kOhm.

x = No cable compensation
- = The cable cannot be applied

IMPORTANT Incorrect selection of the cable length compensation may damage the
vibrator.

After installation of the cable length compensation the max. stroke is read
on the rating plate of the vibrator. The regulation potentiometer for coarse
proportioning is set at max. Then the vibrator is started on coarse
proportioning and it must be checked that the stroke is not larger than the
rated value. If this is not the case, the vibrator is stopped and the cable
compensation is changed to a smaller cable length. Then the stroke is
checked again.

The size of the frequency compensation curves is fixed by the vibration

machine. Consequently the type number must be indicated when ordering
frequency compensation. SKAKO VIBRATION will then inform about the
curve numbers to be used. When reordering, the numbers of the E-prom
must be indicated.

3.5 Cable length compensation

The stroke length of the electromagnetic vibrators and thus the capacity has
a linear decline directly proportional to the cable length between the
SKAKOTROL and the electromagnetic vibrator. The square and the
conducting material of the wire influence as well.
Consequently SKAKO VIBRATION recommends that the control is placed
as close as possible to the vibrator (see item 3.7.5 - SKAKOTROL)

However, as the values recommended in item 3.7.5 (SKAKOTROL) cannot

always be observed, is it possible to compensate for other cable lengths.

This can be carried out by means of four bugs placed at the SKAKOPAC
plug (see drawing of the SKAKOPAC) . These may be combined in 16
different ways.

On the following pages is a description of how to ad- just the different

vibrators with cable length and square.

Upon adjusting the bugs, the number of the vibrator can be read on the type
sign, and the stroke length can be obtained by phoning SKAKO

VIBRATION. Afterwards the vibrator is started on 100%, and it should be

checked that the stroke length does not exceed the stroke length which was
informed by SKAKO VIBRATION. If this is the case, the vibrator has to be
stopped, and the SKAKOPAC coded for a smaller cable length. The stroke
length should then be checked again.

NOTE An incorrect selection of cable length compensation may damage the

vibrator. SKAKO VIBRATION assumes no responsibility in this
connection.

3.7 Coarse/fine Proportioning

The SKAKOPAC coarse/fine print enables an individual capacity regulation
for coarse and fine proportioning. The regulation takes place by means of
trimming potentiometers on the print. 2 nos. potentiometers and 2 nos. light
diodes have the following function:

Light diode LI shows the signal for coarse proportioning. This signal is
usually a common signal which is connected in parallel to all the
SKAKOTROL prints. If only L1 emits light, no proportioning takes place
from the feeder. Light diode L2 shows the signal for fine proportioning. If
only L2 emits light, fine proportioning takes place from the feeder. The
stroke for fine proportioning is adjusted by means of potentiometer P3A. If
L1 and L2 emit light at the same time, the SKAKOTROL will do the coarse
proportioning. The stroke is adjusted by means of potentiometer P2A.

L1 + L2 = coarse proportioning (P2A)

L2 only = fine proportioning (P3A)

L1 only = no proportioning

Please note that both signals must be set at the same time L1 + L2 for coarse
proportioning. When the coarse limit has been reached, L1 is disconnected
and L2 continues until the fine limit has been reached. The print has 2 nos.
jumpers which must be set correctly to be able to coarse proportion on a
common signal. Jumper SW2 must not be mounted and on jumper SW3
there must be a connection between legs 1-2. If a PLC with transistor output
is applied, a 10 Ohm resistance must be placed in series with the output.
This is usually only necessary on the fine proportioning as all coarse
proportioning signals pass a common relay.

Cable Length Compensation

The stroke of electromagnetic vibrators as well as the capacity decline, the

longer the cable is between the SKAKOTROL and the vibrator. The cable
square and the conductor material are of significance too.

Hopper
The hopper is provided with a flange for fastening to a silo, as well as with an
adjustable, interchangeable gate for regulating the depth of the bed of material
and thus the capacity.
Furthermore, it is possible to fit a supporting flange for a hydronic sensor for
measuring the moisture level of the material.

Vibratory Trough
Open design, FCE-3 and FCU-3:
The angle of the trough relative to the hopper may be adjusted from 0 to 15,
which will result in an increase of capacity.

Enclosed design, FCE-4 and FCU-4:

In the standard version of the feeder, the angle of the trough is not adjustable.

In feeders type FCE-4 and FCU-4, the connections between inlet hopper and
trough as well as between trough and outlet funnel are sealed by means of
dust-proof rubber sheeting and rubber strips.

Fig.: Enclosed feeder type FCE-4 and FCU-4 - Rubber dust-sealing

The conveying action of the vibratory feeder being so-called micro-hops, the
wear of the vibratory trough is minimal. However, an increased angle of
inclination will result in increased wear because of increased friction between
the trough and the conveyed material.

In order to optimise both the conveying action and the lifetime of the
feeder, the vibrator unit has been carefully selected and adjusted to
IMPORTANT
match the weight of the trough. Changing the structure of the trough,
e.g. by mounting extra wear plates or changing the weight of the trough,
may cause damage to the feeder /the vibrator.

In case of substantial repair work or changes to the trough, the entire

trough should be replaced. For repair work, contact our technicians who will
provide the necessary technical assistance.

Gate
The gate is bolted into the hopper and may be demounted for obtaining a
great capacity, or if the particle size of the material is so large that a very large
gate opening is required.

The gate opening may be adjusted for capacity regulation; see the section
”Commissioning” of this manual.

Other types of gates may be installed (see the chapter ”Optional Equipment”).
Wear plates
To avoid wear of the equipment when handling very abrasive or sticky
materials, wear plates may be bolted onto both trough and hopper.

IMPORTANT Changes of the machine

In order to optimise both the conveying action and the lifetime of the machine,
the vibrator unit has been carefully selected and adjusted to match the weight
of the trough. Changing the structure of the machine, e.g. by mounting extra
wear plates or changing the weight of the machine, may cause damage to the
machine /the vibrator.

In case of substantial repair work or changes we recommend to contact

our technicians who will provide the necessary technical assistance.

Wear plates
To avoid wear of the equipment when handling very abrasive or sticky
materials, wear plates may be bolted onto both trough and hopper.

Wear plates must be bolted on securely using bolts of quality 8.8, and
IMPORTANT
taking suitable safety measures.

IMPORTANT The vibrator must be commissioned carefully after mounting wear

plates. Otherwise, the changed trough weight may cause breakdown of
the machine (see the above section describing the trough).

Installation
Transportation
The machine is always delivered on a pallet or support, and wrapped in
shrink-wrap plastic. The shrink-wrap should not be removed until installation,
as it protects the surface of the machine.

The weight of the machine is indicated in the technical specifications of the

instructions.

Lifting
The machine may be handled either by crane or by forklift truck.

IMPORTANT NEVER lift the machine by the vibrator.

Large machines are provided with lifting eyes for lifting by crane.

IMPORTANT The lifting eyes may ONLY be used for handling an empty machine!
Refer to the paragraph "Illustrations" for fundamental outline of the lift
bracket.

IMPORTANT If clearance is insufficient, or if for some other reason handling by crane is not
possible, the machine may be handled by a forklift truck.

Handling the machine by forklift truck creates a danger of instability.

Necessary safety measures must be taken to ensure a safe handling.

Assembly
The frame and consoles for suspending/providing base support to the
machine must be absolutely rigid and immobile.

A means must be provided for the machine to oscillate freely on the springs
without touching any stationary objects. This can be checked by testing the
machine without any material before it becomes operational.

No unauthorised equipment must be fitted to the parts of the machine.

For machines supplied with a frame, see the section entitled ‘Stand’.

Demounting and Disposal

Necessary measures for safe handling must be taken.

Disposal/scrapping of the conveyor must be carried out in an environmentally

safe manner and in accordance with any local environmental statutes and
regulations.

In connection with removal/scrapping it should be noted that the machine

can consists of the following materials:

o Steel
o Possibly, wear plates of PEHD or TIVAR
o Glass fibre (vibrator cover (electromagnetic vibrators))

Mechanical commissioning

Settings for obtaining max. capacity

We recommend the following basic settings if the feeder is to run at max.
capacity:
o Set the decline of the trough to 8 with the gate fully opened.

In open feeders, the slope of the trough may be adjusted from 0º-15º
according to requirement.

NOTE An increase of the angle of inclination will give a higher capacity, but
also result in increased wear of the trough. Furthermore, the risk of
“self-feeding” appears, i.e. material may pass through the feeder
without the vibrator running.

For changing the angle of inclination of

the trough, loosen the front carrying
springs, and turn the trough to the
desired position.

Fig.: Setting the angle of inclination of the trough in open feeders

Raise the gate such that the distance between the bottom of the trough and
the lower edge of the gate is 10% greater than the height of the trough.

In the standard design of enclosed versions of the feeder (type FCE-4

and FCU-4, FCD-4), the angle of inclination cannot be adjusted, but is
fixed at 8.
In this case, capacity regulation takes place by adjusting the height of the
gate.

IMPORTANT To avoid overfilling there has to be a free room from material to ceiling of the
through at minimum 0,1 x total height.

Settings for obtaining max. precision of proportioning

When constant (=accurate) proportioning is required, we recommend to use a
high stroke, setting the vibrator near its maximum.
Then lower the gate until the desired capacity is obtained.

The gate opening is adjusted by loosening the 2 bolts in the gate frame, so
that the plate may be lifted up and down for adjusting capacity.

Gate opening

The minimum gate opening must be 2 to 3 times larger than the largest
NOTE lumps found in the material, in order to avoid jamming of the outlet.

The stroke of the feeder can be read on the stroke indicator plate placed on
the drive console, see drawing in the chapter ”Description”.

Illustration of stroke reading

The below figure constitutes an example only of reading the vibrator stroke.

Daily Operation
Before Start-up
Before start-up, observe the following points:

o The vibrator must be correctly installed and commissioned

o Any optional equipment must be correctly installed and
IMPORTANT commissioned
o All suspension springs must be intact
o Electrical connections must be correctly installed and
intact
o No persons may be in or on the machine

Starting and Stopping the Machine

According to the selected type of controls, the machine may be
started/stopped either by means of an external ON/OFF signal or by means of
the main switch, see the next section ”Control Devices”

Control Devices – only by use of electromagnetic

vibrators
The standard controls of machines with electromagnetic vibrators are
equipped with the following components:

Main Switch
Lamp
Potentiometer button
Rotary switch MAN/AUT

• The main switch is used for switching on the voltage. It may also be
used for starting/stopping the vibrator, in case no external ON/OFF
signal is used.

• A light in the lamp indicates that tension is on.

• The potentiometer button is used for regulating capacity from 0-100%.

Note that a potentiometer setting between 0% and 10% provides
inaccurate capacity regulation.
Note that at 0%, the vibrator will still be vibrating.

• The rotary switch is used for selecting the method of capacity

regulation: by means of the potentiometer or by means of an external
analogous signal, e.g. 0-20mA.

Operating the Machine

It should be checked on a regular basis that the machine functions correctly,
and that all csupporting springs are intact. In case of any irregularity, the
machine must be stopped, and the error must be corrected.

IMPORTANT The vibrator may be damaged if the flow of material is obstructed.

The vibrator capacity can be to low/inconstant, if the weight of the

machine is changed.

Check regularly that no build-up of material accumulates in the machine which

might obstruct its movement, and that the weight of the machine does not

Wear Lining for Trough and Hopper

For handling very abrasive materials, wear plates may be bolted into the
trough and the hopper, independently of each other.

It may also be advantageous to use wear lining with very sticky materials.
Wear plates of PEHD or TIVAR are a possibility.

For the trough, wear plates are available with rounded corners. This is
advantageous for handling sticky materials.

Fig: wear lining

Wear plates are available in the following materials:

• Regular steel type S235JRG2

• Hardox 400
• Domex 690XPD
• Stainless steel AISI 304
• Polyethylene PEHD
• TIVAR

In order to optimise both the conveying action and the lifetime of the
feeder, the vibrator unit has been carefully selected and adjusted to
IMPORTANT
match the weight of the trough. Changing the structure of the trough,
e.g. by mounting extra wear plates or changing the weight of the trough,
may cause damage to the feeder /the vibrator.

Pneumatic Outlet Gate

Open standard feeders FCE-3 and FCU-3 may be equipped with a ready-
made outlet gate that stops material from leaking during fine proportioning and
blocks forward passage of material when the hopper is being filled.

Fig.: Outlet gate

In enclosed feeders, the outlet gate function must be ordered when the
machine is initially ordered.

The following section contains instructions for use and service of

standard-version pneumatic outlet gates.
For bespoke gate arrangements, instructions are provided as a separate
addendum.

Safety Instructions

Operation

Do not touch the gate and the cylinder arm when the machine is running,
and compressed air supply is connected.

WARNING Only start up the FC feeder with outlet gate after making sure that there
are no persons touching or present next to the pneumatic gate.

Cleaning, Maintenance and Repair

Cleaning, maintenance and repair may only be undertaken when the

vibratory feeder is turned off and the compressed air supply to the
pneumatic gate is disconnected.
WARNING
Description
The function of the gate is to block for passage of materials and to provide a

prestressing.

When fitting and adjusting the gate, take care that fingers or other body
parts do not get stuck.

Fitting and adjusting the gate must not be done when compressed air is
WARNING connected.

When the gate has been fitted and adjusted, drill a locking bolt through the
side of the gate and the hopper. Drill the hole through position 4 (see the
sketch in the section ”Description”).

If it is desired at a later time to change the angle of inclination of the trough,

the locking bolt must be removed, the gate re-adjusted, and a new hole must
be drilled for the locking bolt.

Commissioning
When commissioning the gate, compressed air 6-8 bar is required. The
amount of air must be adapted to the desired speed of cylinder travel.

The solenoid valve must receive a control signal. The tension must
correspond to the signal emitter and the coil on the solenoid valve.

Standard gates are fitted ex works from the valve to the cylinder. The only
fitting work required on site is connecting compressed air to port 1 on the
solenoid valve, and connecting power to the coil.

Standard gates can be fitted with both types of solenoid valves.

Description
SKAKO VIBRATION’s electromagnetic vibrator used in combination with a
vibrated structure (trough, screen, etc.) to constitute a twin-mass system
which produces controlled rectilinear oscillations.
Our drives are super-critically tuned, i.e. the drive frequency is set above the
supply frequency. This has the advantage of making the drive perform more
efficiently when subjected to a material head load. This as opposed to sub-
critically tuned alternative drives that perform less efficiently under load, due to
damping effects.

The vibrator is consists of a light-alloy metal base, fitted with an

electromagnet.

For maximum mechanical strength and moisture protection, the magnet coil is
encapsulated in plastic.

A counter-mass is connected via coil springs to the light-alloy base, which

together with the vibrating structure constitutes the so-called working mass.
The counter-mass consists of a freely oscillating base plate, fitted with
armature and trimming weights.

The vibrator is provided with either a removable plastic cover or a sheet metal
plate cover (vibrator type 100D/200D).

Demounting and Disposal

IMPORTANT Necessary measures for safe handling must be taken.

Disposal/scrapping of the feeder must be carried out in an environmentally

safe manner and in accordance with any local environmental statutes and
regulations.

In connection with removal/scrapping it should be noted that the vibrator

consists of the following:

o Steel
o Aluminium (Vibrator base)
o Glass fibre (vibrator cover)
o Epoxy (the magnet of the vibrator is cast into Epoxy)

Commissioning

IMPORTANT The vibrator must be commissioned carefully after mounting of wear

plates. Otherwise, the feeder may be damaged because of the changed
weight (consult feeder/trough manual, section ”Description”).

Trimming the Vibrator

Excessive trim-weight causes vibrator knocking (see chapter ”Disturbances”).
The armature and the magnet will collide, and a knocking sound will be heard.
This causes structural overload and must NOT happen.
When trimming the vibrator, the cover must be removed. Note that even the
weight of the cover has some influence on the stroke.

Vibrator trimming should only take place after receiving instructions

from SKAKO VIBRATION A/S.

When should the vibrator be trimmed?

Only exceptionally on site, e.g.:

a) In certain cases after renovation.

b) When the weight of the trough is changed, e.g. when fitting wear plates.

c) Whenever the material load on the trough is exceptionally heavy; this

might otherwise cause vibrator knocking.

The stroke can be read on the stroke indicator plate which is placed on the
drive console.

Maintenance
The electromagnetic vibrator requires no lubrication.

Daily maintenance
Check at regular intervals that the vibrator is properly fastened, and that screw
connections, screens, etc. are in place and in intact condition.

Disturbances
It may occur that the magnet and the armature of the vibrator collide. This
phenomenon is called vibrator knocking and reveals itself by a knocking
sound.

Vibrator knocking may occur in the following situations:

a) excess voltage of the electrical supply

IMPORTANT b) a build-up of material inside the machine obstructs its free
movement
c) material has adhered to the machine, increasing its weight
d) the weight of the vibratory trough has been changed, e.g. after
adding or changing wear plates.

If vibrator knocking occurs, the machine must be stopped immediately,

and the cause of the problem identified.

Vibrator knocking may also occur briefly when connecting the power supply.
This is usually harmless.

We must emphasize that out warranty is invalidated if

• the vibrator has been allowed to run while knocking
• the vibrator has been running at a voltage or frequency different from
those indicated on the vibrator.
