Drug Education
Assignment

I. Objectives:
 Identifying a type of a drug and the signs when an individual uses it
 Resources of information and guidance will be point out.

II. General Instructions:

1. Choose what specific drug is involved.

Cocaine
2. There is a scenario in which one of your friends is taking that specific drug. Your
goal is to know the signs of someone taking that drug based on your resources
and compare it to what you observed to your friend.

Common signs of Cocaine use include:

 Dilated pupils
 Long periods of wakefulness
 Loss of appetite
 Overconfidence
 Over-excitement
 Paranoia
 Runny nose or frequent sniffles
 Legal issues
 Missing or being late to work
 Financial problems
 Mood swings
 Irritability
 Depression
Comparison:

 I gather some information and I see some similarity like depression, mood
swings and irritability.

3. Identify local resources/organization that you can share to your friend in where
he/she can seek help or guidance.

The regular use of cocaine can damage chemical pathways in the brain,
and those changes can make clear thinking difficult. People with a cocaine
addiction may not even know they have a problem. Families can raise
awareness through interventions, and when treatment begins, they can
provide love and support, so the person stays in treatment. When the
program is complete, families can also watch for signs of relapse, and they
can spur reentry into treatment as needed.

4. Write a letter to your friend showing your concern and offering him/her a help.
The letter should have the following:
a) The type of drug and the signs shows by the individual using them based
on your source of information (site resource e.g. I learn from website:…..)
b) The behavior(s) your friend has shown that makes you worry and
suspecting him/her of using drugs.
c) Give your friend a reason to quit using it.
d) Sharing the information of the local resources/organization where he/she
can seek help or guidance.
Dear my friend,

First of all, I am Radia-Lahi Bonsayon your best friend and I am concern on

your health. I’d like to help you to stop using cocaine drugs because base on my
research on WebMD I see some of the symptoms like Depression, Irritability,
Mood Swings, Overconfidence, Financial problems and other symptoms that I
gathered. I also observed that your behavior is not normal at all and it feels like
you’re in a big problem. I understand that addiction is a brain disease but I’d like
to help you to quit using it. Just like you wouldn’t expect someone with cancer to
be able to heal yourself without a doctor’s help, the right treatment and support
from your family and me your friend is the best way to heal. I suggest this things
to you to be able to think that the best thing to do is to stop. The glaringly obvious
benefits of sobriety are a no brainer: you will no longer be a slave to your
addiction. Your quality of life will increase. You won’t get arrested for doing it and
you won’t be paranoid and peeking out of the windows in fear of the police. If
your decision is final, just contact me or contact the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 for
information on support and treatment facility. Then if you are not ready or afraid,
just call me and I’ll be the one to contact them.

Your friend,

Radia
