Brief History of the Barangay

The first inhabitants of Barangay Bannawag were the Kalingas and Ifugaos. They
were followed by the Ilocanos, Tagalog and Visayanos. The people of Barangay
Bannawag are engage in farming and fishing.
Bannawag is an Ilocano term which means rising sun, a name the early settlers
gave this barangay for the reason that they view the beauty of the place at a distance
just like the rays of the sun.
The first knowledge leader was Modesto Bajacan he was succeeded by Sabas
Umipig who served as Barangay Captain for quite some time. Although far from the
poblacion, the people of Bannawag are education conscious. They strongly believe that
education is the best legacy they can give their children. Inspite of the absence of the
absence of a public elementary school Bannawag the parents sacrifice to enrol their
children in the nearest school to the barangay. As percencus findings there are many
professionals in Bannawag who are gainfully employed elsewhere in the Philippines and
even abroad.
In the May 1997 election Dionicio S. Alejandro won the Barangay Captain of
Bannawag who served as Barangay Captain from July 1, 1997 to July 31, 2002.
During the Barangay Election last July 15, 2002, a young stewardship won as
Barangay Captain in the person of Larry B. Galingana. He served as an un-opposed
Barangay Captain for three terms: August 1, 2002 to November 30, 2007, December 1,
2007 to November 30, 2010 and December 1, 2010 to November 30, 2013.
During the October 28, 2013 Barangay Election, Melvin Rey A. Galingana eldest
son of former Punong Barangay Larry B. Galingana is an un-opposed Punong
Barangay of Bannawag, Aurora, Isabela. He will serve from December 1, 2013 to
December 30, 2016.
Bannawag is a small barangay but with a promising future under the stewardship
of young Punong Barangay Captain Melvin Rey A. Galingana.
Punong Barangay Melvin Rey A. Galingana was elected Punong Barangay of
Bannawag, Aurora, Isabela who will serve from July 1. 2018 until the next Barangay
Election when he won during the May 14, 2018 SK and Barangay Election.
