 Domestic Violence : Key Facts
 Violence against women - are major public health
problems and violations of women's human rights.
 15–71% of women aged 15- 49 years reported physical
and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner at some
point in their lives. (WHO, 2012)
 4 million women in USA are physically abuse each year
 2000 – 4000 will die of their injuries
 52% of women who are murdered are killed by past or
present partners.
 Although abused women make frequent visits to health
care system, only 20% are correctly identified.

 Assume the role of an agent of change through :
 Identification of abused women, men, elders & children
 Awareness of prevalence of abuse
 Assessment of victims of domestic violence
 Validate the unacceptability of violence and the right to
safety for all women and their children
 Offer support in a non-judgmental fashion while assuring
that viable alternatives exist
