Part 1: (Written part) Answer the following questions in a brief and concise statement.:

1) What were the reasons why Rizal explored in other lands, or countries outside his native
land?

Rizal had a personal reason as well as an altruistic reason for his decision to study abroad. He
wanted to become an eye specialist in order to cure her mother from an eye ailment. He also
wanted to study the cultures, laws and governments of European countries in order to help his
countrymen.

2) In what way did the Igorots are mocked by the Spaniards? Was the country under the
colony of Spain during the time of Rizal?

The Spaniards were determined to convert the Igorots to Christianity. They launched a
crusade to proselytize the highland natives of Luzon and to place them under Spanish
Authorities. A strong expedition was sent to the Igorotland to stop the natives from resisting
colonial subjugation.
