Learning Portfolio: Strengths & Weaknesses in relation to Change Management

You are strongly encouraged to use this Learning Portfolio Personal Notes pro forma to
record your learning notes regularly over the duration of the first five study units. It is
important to reflect upon ideas, current/past experiences and your learning in relation to your
strengths and weaknesses in relation to change management and any implications for your
future career plans. It may help the organisation of your material to use the following FOUR
KEY ELEMENTS
1. Experiences of Change Management
From classroom discussions, activities, interactions, as well as from elsewhere – work
situations, social events, family etc. Try to identify specific incidents of experience – be quite
specific and detailed in your records e.g. it might even be useful to include details of
conversations. It is particularly worthwhile identifying any experiences that you notice relate
to the theory covered in the module. This is an important part of meeting the requirements for
the ‘Analysis’ criterion.
2. Thoughts
Key ideas, concepts, models and theories from the literature that develop and/or change how
you make sense of situations. This is an important part of meeting the requirements for the
‘Theory and Literature’ criterion and will feed into the meeting the ‘Analysis’ criterion when
you use the theory to make sense of your experiences.
3. Reflections
Take time to reflect and gain deeper personal insight into your strengths and weaknesses in
relation to change management. Make connections between experiences, feelings, thoughts –
between practice and theory – and build an understanding of what is important to you about
the things that you are noticing. This will help you to build good arguments –an important
part of meeting the requirements for the ‘Critical Evaluation’ criterion.
4. Implications
Think about how your learning might relate to your future career plans. Consider the
implications of the important experiences, thoughts or reflections that you are recording about
your strengths and weaknesses in relation to change management. For example, what might
this mean for your future career plans? Does this make you think differently about likely
careers? Do you need to develop greater strength in some of your aptitudes? How might you
achieve this? Etc. This will help in relation to all three assessment criteria.

Obviously this will not be a neat and simple exercise as ideas and thoughts cannot always be
easily categorised and some ideas may overlap. However it is important to capture your ideas
in this Learning Portfolio whilst they are current so that you can track how they
change/develop as the module progresses. You can capture these views in any way you like:
pictures, words, poetry. Remember – this is your personal learning portfolio. It will not be

assessed. However, it is your opportunity to build a body of evidence, ideas and reflections
that you can use to help you when it comes to writing your Coursework Essay of the module.
You are free to include this Learning Portfolio as an Appendix to your Summary Essay.
However, this is not essential and it will not be marked.

Using this learning portfolio pro forma to organise and gather your ideas together in one place
(rather than having your learning notes scattered in different places – or worse, not recorded
anywhere) is likely to help you to perform better on this assignment. The structure means that
your notes will already be aligned with the assessment criteria and it will help you to follow
the GUIDANCE given in the assignment briefing.

The following pages give you a skeleton structure for your learning notes. This is just a
suggestion –you can probably come up with something that works even better for you.

You are free to write as much as you want – this is not assessed so there is no word
limit. You might also want to change the format (e.g. get rid of the boxes).
It’s entirely up to you.

Good luck and enjoy gaining insight into your strengths and weaknesses in relation to
Change Management
