A Plant Family

Do you eat tomatoes and potatos? Tomato and potato plants are in the nightshade family.
Atropa belladona or deadly nightshade is in that family. Deadly nightshade is very poisonous. You
can die if you eat a deadly nightshade plant.
Tomato and potato plants are poisonous, too. You can eat potatoes and tomatoes, but you
can't eat the leaves of these plants.
Tobacco is in the nightshade family, too. Tobacco leaves have nicotine in them. Nicotine
is very poisonous. You can eat tobacco leaves if you cook them. You can smoke tobacco leaves,
too, but doctors say, “Tobacco is poisonous. Don't smoke!

Things to do in Canada
THE MALL in West Edmonton, Alberta

Are you going on vacation in Canada? Come to the West Edmonton Mall. This indoor mall is
very, very large. If you don't want to walk, you can go from store in a golf cart or a rickshaw.
You can shop in 828 stores. You can go to T-shirt stores, music stores, and souvenir stores. You
can even buy a car!
Are you tired? Do you want yo sit down and eat? There are 110 restaurants, from French to
Chinese! (If you eat too much, there are 16 doctors to look at you!) Or you can go to the
Fantasyland Hotel. It has 120 rooms.
Do you want to have some fun? There are waterslides and a roller coaster.

Chicago's Great Food Festival
Every year the city of Chicago has an outdoor food festival. Its name is Taste of Chicago. For
eight days, you can't drive a car on Columbus Drive or Congress Drive, but you can walk, eat, anda
listen to music on those streets. The festival is open in the morning, afternoon, and evening. About
375,000 people go there every day.
At the festival, there is food from about eighty Chicago restaurants. You can eat quesadillas in a
Mexican restaurant. Then you can have tempura in a Japanese restaurant. There is American food –
hamburgers, hot dogs, and fried chicken – too.
What do people eat? Here are some interesting numbers from this year's festival: 55,000 hot
dogs, 460,000 slices of pizza, 50,000 slices of cake, 102,000 egg rolls, and 27,000 kilos of French
fries.
