FORWORD

The SONIMX 2106-x-LCD represent a family of different models of Gas Dividers. The difference between the
models are the numbers of dilution steps (from 16 to 1024 for the binary one and from 10 to 3x10 for the lin/log
one) and the eventual built in Nox converter Tester option. This operating manual is valid for all models and will
take care of all the options as compatibility with corrosive gases, additional inlets,… (even they are note installed
in you specific device).

INTRODUCTION

The Gas Divider SONIMIX 2106-LCD is an easy to use programmable high precision mechanical binary reference
gas mixer able to generate the  zero  and up to 1024 fixed steps of concentration with a precision of the
mixture better than 0.6% relative.

Built in accordance with the ISO 6145/6 normalization, this instrument is equipped of pressure regulators and
sonic nozzles. These components are essential and allow precision, stability, repeatability and homogeneity of the
generated gas mixtures.

Due to its unique design, the Gas Divider generates a constant flow of mixture with following dilution points :

SONIMIX 2106-16-LCD from 6% to 100% in 16 steps

SONIMIX 2106-32-LCD from 3% to 100% in 32 steps

important tool for our
service department

The purge 1 is used to clean the line at inlets stage. This purge will remove all the air and humidity being in the
line and replace it with the pure gas of the Diluted constituent cylinder. This must be done each time you change
the cylinder or open the line for any reason. The purge will protect your gas divider if you use corrosive gases (do
not use corrosive gases if the according option is not installed).
In addition, the purge will speed up the stabilization time of the mixture, as the line will be ready with the right
gas.

The purge 2 : Once the purge 1 is performed, the purge 2 will bring the new gas in the heart of the Mixing
module. The purge 2 should be performed each cylinder or inlet change (only 1 inlet is available on basic version).
If you purchased the option “additional diluted inlets”, you have the possibility to switch from one cylinder to
another.
In this case, perform the purge 1 once you connect the cylinder and then only perform the purge 2 each time you
switch form one cylinder to the other. (note that a Zero Nitrogen is performed during the purge process)

- 33 -
The rinse functions are used to clean with Nitrogen your instrument, once you have used corrosive gases or once
you have finished to work with the SONIMIX dilution system. The same process apply for the rinse function as for
the purge function.

The rinse 1 will clean with nitrogen the inlets of the SONIMIX

he rinse 2 : will clean with Nitrogen the heart of the dilution system, including the outlet.

autocalibration.
According the measurement results, the nozzle values will be re-evaluated and the whole dilution module will be
recalibrated.
Precision of this process is not so good as standard 17025. The guaranteed precision after a recalibration is <2.5 % relative.

Before to launch an autocalibration, connect the instrument as shown below.

3 bar rel

Carrier or Complement
gas

Auto calibration will first check if fluidic elements are working properly then will measure the nozzle flow in different
configuration thanks to an internal mass flow meter. The complete process could take several minutes, sometime more than
one hour, especially for models with many points.

Check boxes descriptions are bellow

Check box name Reason to be unchecked
Qn The checkbox of the row is checked when the flow measured using the CAR line is equal (+/-0.6%)
or to the one measured by using the DIL line.
Q0->Qn
Flowmeter The flowmeter used to evaluate nozzle's flow is not reliable. (bad repeatability)
EV One or several solenoid valves doesn't opened as intended. (unexpected flow)
Pressure Regulator Pressure regulators of line DIL and CAR doesn't regulate at the same pressure. (Flow not the same
if gas is coming from DIL or CAR Line).
Nozzle One of the nozzle's flow is too far from its theorical value. To guaranty the requested precision,
the flow of each nozzle is defined by the flow of the previous nozzles (relative constant gap). The
flow of nozzle n+1 must be equal (+/-15%) to the sum of flows of all nozzles from 0 to n. (+/- 15%).

MAINTENANCE

The SONIMIX 2106-LCD as the other LNI instruments, if they are used in accordance with the manufacturer
recommendations, does not requires a frequent maintenance. However, the nozzles are mechanical elements and
drift of values are possible.

Notice, the major sources of problems being due to the poor quality of the alimenting gases, we recommend to
check and to exchange regularly the input filters.

If the instrument has the Autocalibration option it is possible to do autocalibration that replace the annual LNI re-
calibration.

AUTOCALIBRATION
This maintenance is only possible if option Autocalibration has been installed. Autocalibration concept has been developed
by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) of United Kingdoms, this is a patented process.

Description about how to do an autocalibration is described in chapter The tools Menu/Autocalibration Sub-menu.

SOFTWARE UPDATE

Material needed is:

Zipped file provided by LNI

USB stick

How to update:
1. Extract folder from zip file and copy folder NetDCUA5 on the USB stick (at root).
2. Plug the USB stick on the back of the Sonimix. The device must be shut down at this step.
3. Turn on the Sonimix. A booting window should appear, check all copy attempt are displayed as "…ok" and sentence
"Sonimix software update finished." is present.
4. If asked by booting window do a calibration of the screen. (follow instructions on screen)
5. Turn off the device and unplug the USB stick. The device is now updated and ready to use.

Fine update (expert only part):

Usually LNI will provide the custom NetDCUA5 folder according the situation described by the customer this folder only
contains the requested files and no more, but if the complete and standard folder is delivered, some liberties are allowed.
- Skip screen calibration: Remove file TouchCalibrate.dll
- Do not initialize customer or calibration values: Remove corresponding file:
o Calibration = Systeme.ini
o Some other files could also been removed as Scenario.ini, historique.ini, Gas.ini, Cylinder.ini, etc. The
number and the name of files could change according the Sonimix model.

Warning: Never remove langue.ini !

RECALIBRATION

The SONIMIX 2106-LCD is a reference instrument which was carefully calibrated with high precision flowmeters. An ISO
17025 calibration certificate is also available, as LNI Swissgas is an accreditated company for Flow measurements.

We recommend to recalibrate the instrument it every 18 months. For this process, we recommend to send the instrument
back to LNS

All certificate are available on our web site : www.lni-swissgas.com

REMOTE COMMAND

REMOTE VALUES OR MANUAL VALUES

In remote mode, the Sonimix may use some remotes or manual values.

Remote values are legacy of software GasCal. Remote values are limited to :
- CAR Gas
- DIL Gas
- DIL Balance
- DIL Gas Concentration in cylinder
- DIL Gas GCF
When remote values are used, it is not possible to have multiples components and it is not possible to use a cylinder created
in manual mode.

Manual values are same values as in manual mode. You can call existing multiple components cylinders created in manual
mode.

HYPERTEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is an application protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia
information systems. Hypertext is a multi-linear set of objects, building a network by using logical links (the so-
called hyperlinks) between the nodes (e.g. text or words). HTTP is the protocol to exchange or transfer hypertext.
HTTP functions as a request-response protocol in the client-server computing model. The client submits an HTTP
request message to the server. The server performs functions on behalf of the client, returns a response message
to the client. The response contains completion status information about the request and may also contain
requested content in its message body. It means that the server will close the TCP connection immediately after
the transfer of this response.

AK PROTOCOL

The remote command protocol is the AK-Protocol, mainly used in the Automotive Industry.
This chapter will only present briefly the instructions installed in the gas divider.

Syntax

The speed of communication between the Host computer and the SONIMIX is low (frequency < 10Hz).
The principle of communication is based on the Master-Slave relation; the Host Computer (the Master) sends a
message to the gas divider (the Slave), the Slave executes the instruction and sends an acknowledgment. The
Slaves never requests the communication to the Master.

The instructions are transmitted to the instrument with the following syntax :

* 1 byte : start of the message: STX

* 1 byte : Don't care word
* 4 bytes : function code (4 characters)
* 1 byte : blank
* 2 bytes : channel number: K#
* N bytes : data if necessary
* 1 byte : end of message: ETX

The instructions are received from the instrument with the following syntax (answer to the MASTER):

- 47 -
* 1 byte : start of the message : STX
* 1 byte : Don't care word
* 4 bytes : function code (4 characters): ???? if the command is unknown by the Slave
* 1 byte : blank
* 1 byte : error status : 0 if no error was detected
* N bytes : data if necessary
* 1 byte : end of message : ETX

- 48 -
Error Handling

It might happen that an unknown instruction is sent, that the device is busy with a function which is not the
desired one, or that an error occurred in the command parameters. This Table summarizes all errors that can
appear upon any master instruction.

Device Acknowledgment Explanation

???? ES Device does not know the
instruction sent.
xxxx ES BS Device or module is busy with
another function or not ready .
xxxx ES SE Syntax error within command
parameters or incomplete
command.
xxxx ES NA Requested function or data are
not available.
xxxx ES DF Data error: The kind or number of
given parameters are not valid.
xxxx ES OF Offline: Device is offline, i.e.
Device is in local mode. Only
inquiry commands and SREM (set
analyzer in remote mode) are
allowed.

Where
xxxx = command
ES = Error status (see ASTF command for error status description)

LIST OF THE AK INSTRUCTIONS

In examples K0 is used as standard channel number. If you need to change it, you may replace it by K1, K2, etc. Channel number can be changed from window
Configuration/RS232 or Configuration/TCP/IP of the application.

Also in example, the don't care word is a space, but any character is accepted.

Parameters between brackets () are optional.
