Create a Mapped drive to Dandoc

Introduction
Although the preferred way of working with Dandoc is with the Web client, it is possible to create a
mapped drive in Windows File Explorer to get easy and familiar access to a Document Library or just
a folder in the folder structure in a Document Library. This is done through the WebDAV interface

Remarks of working with a mapped drive

1. There is a limit on the maximum file size of 50Mb.
2. There is a limit on the maximum characters in the complete file path length of 254
characters. This can make a folder appear to be empty, although there is actually content
(which can be seen in the Web client).
3. Every save is an immediate Minor version update (similar to “Edit in Microsoft Office”). There
is no possibility to create a Major version.
4. There is no indication if a file is already locked for editing by another user.
5. If you create a mapped drive on a folder inside the folder structure of Document Library and
the Folder name changes, the mapped drive will not be accessible anymore.

How to create a mapped drive

Step 1, Find the correct path
You can’t use the URL from the address bar in the Web client. For every folder you can find the
correct URL for the mapped drive connection on the Details page.

You can access the Details page in two ways:

1. Open the Document Library and click on the Folder name in the ‘Breadcrumbs’
2. Open the Document Library and use the context menu to the right of the folder and click on
“View Details”

In the Details view of the folder, scroll the screen to the “Share” section in the Right panel. Copy the
complete URL from “Copy this link for the WebDAV URL”
Step 2, Create mapped drive
1. Open a Windows File Explorer window, and select “This PC”. Select in the ribbon the
“Computer” tab. Click on “Map Network drive”.

2. Copy the URL from the Details page in the Dandoc Web client (see previous steps) and paste
this in the Folder input box. If necessary select another Drive-letter.
3. You can now access the Document Library or Folder as a mapped drive from the Windows
File Explorer.
