Questions Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” & The Road

1. What does Plato hope to convey to readers of his allegory?

The wise shouldn't always rule

2. According to Plato, do human beings typically perceive reality? To what does he compare the world?
No they do not, humans are trapped in their own little realities and cannot handle actually reality, it will kill them.

A labor camp or prison

3. According to Plato, what often happens to people who develop a true idea of reality? How well do they compete
with others? Who is usually considered superior? Why?
They are unable to see the old reality because "it is too dark" they are looked at as crazy and will be hated
People who see in the darkness, because they can lie about hat they see and they make others blindly believe in them.

4. How do you symbolically interpret such details of this allegory as the chains, the cave, and the fire? What
connotations do such symbols have?

The chains are cultural boundaries that prohibit leaving or thinking differently, maybe laws like jim crow or such.
The cave is a certain place that is filled with these boundaries, one's personal prison
The fire is the anger that is felt in that land

5. Revisit your reading of The Road and consider how the boy and the father might be representative of the characters
in this allegory. Which character is the father? The boy? Why?

The father is the loon who walks towards the sun and the kid is his follower who thinks the same as the others, always questiioning
everything and reluctant to follow his dad.
