Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How can we understand different cultures and connect with other people?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

Culture is very important to me. As someone who moved to Canada at a young age, I feel that
I am a bit out of touch with my own culture. I feel that other people might not be able to
express their culture properly in fear of getting bullied or made fun of for being different. I want
to create an opportunity for everyone to celebrate their cultures and to embrace other’s
differences.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?

I do not have much experience in planning events, so this will be a new experience for me. I
am doing this to broaden my skills and to learn something new.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

My post-secondary plan is to go into information technology however, I am not sure if this is

something I want to actually pursue. My inquiry question and capstone doesn’t exactly relate
to my career choice however, I feel that planning is a good skill to have and is useful in many
job situations. By learning how to plan events, it could help me understand how to lead in a

 project by planning things and making sure everything goes according to plan.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

The core competencies that this capstone could fall under are Creative Thinking, because of
how I must generate ideas on how to plan my capstone as well as how to build and develop
on my ideas. Another core competency would be critical thinking because of how I must
represent my learning and how I must keep track of my progress and assess what I need to
get done. The last of the core competencies that my capstone would fall under would be
Personal & Cultural Identity. This is because of how I plan on creating a festival that explores
different cultures. I want to make an event that shows off how different cultures are that what
you may be used to. your culture and Identity sometimes get lost when you are in a different
environment. You may choose to hide your traditions when you’re around other people. Some
people, especially kids may feel ostracized because they may feel different than others,
whether it’s the food they eat or the clothes they wear.

I would like to present my capstone on a PowerPoint because I feel that I would be able to
show my understanding and learning through a PowerPoint best.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced
at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your
proposal.

For my capstone I will research the process in how we can make a Multicultural Food Festiva
at our school.

The reason I want to do this is to celebrate the different and diverse cultures at our school.
The plan for the Multicultural Food Festival is to have multiple booths that people could sell
and share foods from their culture.

 Culture is very important to me. As someone who moved to Canada at a young age, I feel that
I am a bit out of touch with my own culture, I can’t even speak my native language. One way
that I have stayed in touch with my culture is through food. My parents cook me Filipino food
very often and even though I wasn’t born there, it makes me feel at home. The tastes and
flavours are so unique and different to food I can find here, so I can instantly recognize food
from home. Some of my best memories have been visiting the Philippines when I was young,
and eating Filipino food definitely takes me back to those times.

I feel that other people might not be able to express their culture properly in fear of getting
bullied or made fun of for being different. There are also those who may have been born in
Canada and as such, aren’t as involved with their traditions and heritage as their parents are. I
want to create an opportunity for everyone to celebrate their cultures and to embrace other’s
differences.

This festival is a great opportunity to explore and celebrate different cultures. I want to make
an event that shows off how different cultures are that what you may be used to. Your culture
and Identity sometimes get lost when you are in a different environment. You may choose to
hide your traditions when you’re around other people. Some people, especially kids may feel
ostracized because they may feel different than others, whether it’s the food they eat or the
clothes they wear. If things go right, this is a great way to embrace change and realize that
being different is okay, and that traditions should be celebrated.

Of course in the future, the ideas for the booths could be limitless. Maybe there could be a
booth for traditional games, or performances from their country. I feel that this idea could turn
into something great in the future. My hope is that it could turn into a wonderful experience for
all to enjoy.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and

skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.

The resources I needed were almost purely website articles. For any specific questions I
needed answered, I would ask for the help of people who can help me, like our vice principal
about where we could host the festival, and even trying to reach out to other schools who
have hosted events similar to this one and how they did it, especially during COVID.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will

you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

 One mentor that I can think of who can help me with my capstone would be my mom. She has
a lot of experience planning events on a large scale so she will be able to help me out with a
lot of the more technical aspects that may come with planning an event.

My mom made sure to always remind me work on my capstone at home and looked over and
reviewed my capstone. She helped me with aspects of the project that I didn’t quite
understand like the budgeting of planning an event like this.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Some project limitations would definitely be the amount of time I have to accomplish this. I
have to put a lot of time to make this good because I want this to be a real thing that is
celebrated at school. I want to create a festival that could end up being a tradition in this
school for years to come. This means that I’ll have to make sure that I plan everything
perfectly and that things go according to plan. Other limitations would be the restrictions in this
proposal. How would the festival work? When and where will it be? How can we get students
to participate? These are some questions that I am working on finding the solution to so that I
am able to make this capstone become a reality.

Going into this project, I didn’t realize how difficult planning an event would be. There are so
many unseen aspects that go into planning an event, and everything has to be precise and
detailed so that things can run smoothly. The problems with COVID have made the process
way harder than t needed it to be, and I had to plan around the everchanging restrictions,
even having different locations for the food booths for when COVID will hopefully be over.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
