Introduction

Most of the mechanical industries produce products in mass. The

prime idea of mass production is mainly to meet the requirement of the
customer, to maintain consistent quality & to make the product cost
effective.

The cost of raw material & tools are the major components of the
total cost of the production of the stamp piece. The cost of any raw
material alone may account to about 50% to 90% of the total cost. While
applying the various cost reduction techniques on the other cost, all
possible methods & devices should be employed to reduce the cost o0f
material & cost of tooling. A substantial saving in the raw material can be
achieved by having well considered blank layout & coordinating it with the
selection of the stock material & its width to minimize scrap production.
Control of the raw material required for the component production should
be critically examined.

Almost all products like television, tape recorder, radio,

refrigerator, car, watch, computer etc. which consist of number of
components made of either plastic or sheet metal. Sheet metal components
are produced by a device called “PRESS TOOL”. Generally these tools are
cold working & manufactured to improve the productivity of the
components qualitatively & quantatively.
