“Skills gives me wings to fly”

Radhika Devi aged 21years lives in village Narotampur,Varanasi.She belongs to a very poor low caste family. Her family
Intro has nine members and she is the eldest among other siblings.. Her father is causal laborer and the sole earner of the family.
The pandemic has severely affected the Radhikha family as his father was unable to get labour work during the pandemic
and thereafter too, which resulted in a financial crisis for the family.

As a result Radhika has to leave her studies. During this period,she approached the KIRAN team for support. The team
Situa assessed her family's need and desire for learning employability skills. During field visit and interaction it was evident there
ti is a need for beauticians as during the marriage and festivals time the village women have to visit outside their village for
makeup and beauty therapy.Radhika was enrolled into the beautician trade. She is passionate and consistent in her training
during past 3 months

Conc Now with her beautician skill she undertakes a job - make up, hair cutting, manicure, pedicure etc. She earned Rupees Two
thousand ( US 27) to contribute to her family income. Above all she is an inspiration to poor girls in herr village that through skill one could
lusin
become economically confident in future
Chandani is following her passion

Ms. Chandani Gautam


Chandani was born in a marginalized ST Family (schedule Tribe). In her family she has an elder brother and a father. Her mother died due to
dengue when she was just 1 year old. Her father decided not to remarry after the loss of her biological mother. Her brother has completed his
masters in Sociology and is not willing to go for his PhD because of her family’s economic conditions . As his grandfather (maternal) kept his
name Dr. Bhim (inspired by the great son of India Dr BR Ambedkar) it was always difficult to get admission due to his name having been titled
as Dr. but he is very talented as her sister Chandani. She was an average student but having a family was giving priority for education first, she
was unwilling. As she was growing her interest towards education was decreasing. She has completed her 10 th std. She started taking up various
skills like computer, beautician, etc. She got enrolled in tailoring courses and unlike others she was good at vocational training. In the season of
marriage and other functions she earns well. Following are some of the images of her working.

Seema got equal Opportunity and built trust

Seema Devi is 20 years old, born in an OBC family and was born without disability but due to some circumstances she is partially blind.They are
4 sisters and 1 brother. Her sisters completed their graduation and got married; her brother and Seema are yet to be married as youngest of all her
siblings. She has completed her 12th std but didn’t want to continue her studies further may be because of her disability or due to financial crunches
in the family.
The family’s main occupation is agriculture; they have their own land in the village Dhanupur,Mirzapur.. The entire village is highly affected due
to floods this year, almost every year in the month of August and September so whatever they produce in this time is mostly damaged.From 2
years their financial burden was more due to Pandemic. From this skill training she has got a new light of hope in learning and participating
equally with others and acquiring skills and could earn some money to meet her own needs. During this training she learnt a new tecnicial of
stitching blouses for her mother and sisters also for herself. People from the village are now coming to her as they are slowly thrusting in her that
she won’t damage the clothes and do it perfectly.

Iliyas’s workload has reduced and started earning good


Iliyas

Iliyas was born into a Muslim family and born without disability, when he was 18 years old a tradedy happened while working as labour in
making house and fell from the heightand got 80 % disable. They are 4 brothers and 1 sister. 3 brothers and a sister got married and have their
own family and stay away from them. Now Iliyas is the only breadwinner of the family and uses tricycles for support. He has started a small stall
near the house parents are weak and cannot work due to old age.ILyas has a passion to learn new things and do something to feed his family.
From the project of IM he started getting trained under masala making and pickle making trade before he had to go to the city to bring pickle
and masala but from the time training he has started making his own Masala and Pickle and could sell easily.

Akhilesh and his parents got hope

Akhilesh Harinath

Akhilesh Harinath was born into a SC family.He was born with a disability with polio and has 75 % disability . His parents have 5 children out of
which 3 daughters, got married and have their own family. His father is the only breadwinner of the family; Akhilesh uses his tricycle to move.
He wasn't able to complete his 12th std and reappeared twice but wasn’t successful and then discontinued his education. Like other parents,
akhilesh's Parents now worry about what he will do when they are not alive so they want him to do something to meet his own needs. While
mobilizing Akhilesh he said that he wants to do something and learn to cook bakery products so that he can sell these products near the highway
and earn money . While doing ground study the Kiran team found that the budget to run a bakery is too high and a person from BPL cannot run
this business efficiently so we convinced him to train under masala making/ pickle making. From the project of IM he started getting trained
under masala making and pickle making.He uses his tricycle and started selling the masala and pickle on the highway. He has not done much
business but he will slowly increase more products and keep a small stall on the highway. From this program children like Akhilesh have got a
light of hope into the lives of people to learn and grow.
