Act of Resumption – Pick a date and that the ownership of all land reverts back to whomever owned
that land on that particular date.

Anti-clericalism – within the ruling classes, they wanted power from the Church i.e., taking Church
lands through legal reasons.

Other Causes of Concern for the Church:

 Education – people can re-interpret the Bible, expressing their own opinions on it.
 Increasing literature within Yeomen, artisan and middle classes.
 No longer can the Church’s word of the Bible be absolute
 They’re under scrutiny
 Growth of Protestantism – Cromwell and Cranmer
 John Fischer of Rochester is the only Bishop who stood up against Henry – said to be one of
the greatest scholars of the time
 Robert Barns was burnt to death by Henry due to being a protestant

