Introduction

In this assignment we will learn more about the different types of communication that
we engage in while studying and which one help most student to generate ideas, we
will also look into understanding the small group communication and its
characteristics and its benefits in the organisations and we will also learn how to
compile a communication plan using one of the communication models.

Activity 1

Interpersonal communication: Occurs between two people in a face to face situation.

They are able to see each other and observe facial expressions and other nonverbal
behaviour while they are exchanging verbal messages.

Intrapersonal communication: Occurs when an individual sends and receives

messages internally.

As a student I engage in an Interpersonal communication where I don’t understand

something in my assignment and I want clarity from the other student or someone
who understands it better than me.

I also engage in an Intrapersonal communication in most cases when I study and

write my assignment cause I like studying in a quiet place all by myself, it also help
me to generate new ideas and also have a picture of what am writing about in my
mind.

Intrapersonal communication is the one that works for me because it helps me plenty
of time to generate new ideas and it also helps me invest the efforts and take the risk
of opening fully to myself with only few people and I don’t communicate intimately
with the majority of people and lastly it does not take time, energy and courage.

Activity 2

Small group communication: Is the interaction between three or more people and
these people might share common characteristics which brings them together. Small
group communication have equal opportunity to communicate without being
interrupted by anyone, they also give immediate feedback on the issues discussed,
they want everyone to put full concentration on one task before they can move to
one another, this helps the group members to be focused and determined by doing
so they will not to be subdivided because they are a small group of people who has
the ability to communicate with each other without commotion.

Activity 3

Mass communication: Occurs when information is conveyed to a large audience

through mass media. The mass media includes Television, Radio, Newspaper, Films
and the Internet all which disseminate information to the general public. Mass
communicate will benefit the school because it drives the global economy and helps
implementation of innovation. Nowadays most young and old people spends most of
their focused on mass media and it also makes communication easier for them to
communicate and it’s not time consuming. Mass media is also providing for more
educated populace which can be beneficial for the school kids, it also allows people
to work together to become something greater than themselves, Mass media also
allows people a greater understanding of each other. The school kids are the ones
likely to use mass media cause if they are not on the internet they are watching
television so they will probably receive the message very fast from the adv.=vised
article.

Activity 4

Communication model: provides theoretical basis upon which communication can be

studied or practised. It is important to note that there are many models of
communication and it is beyond the scope of this unit to explain them. in this case I
choose the Laswell formula that focuses more on who said it, what was said, in what
channel was it said , to whom was it said and with what effect was it said.

In this case the message was said by the Student Representative Council ( SRC) of
the University of South Africa is given a task to explain the role of SRC to the first
year students through a campaign and this message will be directed straight to the
first year students in order to know the people to talk to if they feel that the University
is not treating them right, and for them to know that the SRC duties is to help them
and creating ideas which will benefit each and every student in the University. If this
communication model is done following the right processes then the campaign will
be a success and many first year students will have a clear understanding regarding
the duties of the SRC team

Conclusion

In this assessment I have learnt how to explain the different contexts in which
communication may occurs, I also learnt how to demonstrate that communication
has various contexts and it’s important to understand how to communicate in these
different .each and every context its important and serves a specific purpose on its
own, now I have a clear picture of this different contexts of communication and the
purpose it serves.
