Installation

There are currently two different ways to install this editor. The first is for Windows XP users, and the
simpler one to do, the other is for vista, which has only a slight change, but a significant one. Follow the
instructions below for either installation.

To start with make sure you have downloaded the editor, which you will have most likely done if you’re
reading this. The next step is to extract all files from the editor, which once again you are more than likely
to have already done if you’re reading this. To do this, download a program called winrar, which can be
found at: http://www.rarsoft.com/

Once you have downloaded it, install the program and then locate where you download the editor too. Now
click the editor file once and right click the file. Now choose the extract here option, which will extract a
folder called CM2008 Editor to the folder where your editor download is located.

You now need to go into the cm2008 editor folder and open the setup.exe file. This will ask you a few
questions to which you should just accept and install the editor. Once this is done, you need to make a new
folder in your program files folder called “CM2008 Editor”.

If you already have a C drive there is no problem and you can ignore this paragraph, if you don’t own a C
drive, then you need to read this. The best way to get round not having a c drive is to get a USB Pen drive,
or ipod or other such instrument. Plug this in and everytime you use the editor plug it in or the editor will
not work. Once plugged in make a folder on the new drive called “Program Files”. Open this folder and
make a new folder called “CM2008 Editor”.

Once this is done we are sorted for the next step. Making the fileopen.txt file is next and is the single most
important file for the editor to work. To do this right click in the folder and make a new text document file.
Call it “fileopen” and open the newly created file. Once you have open the new file you need to go to your
main hard drive and navigate to the Championship Manager folder. Everytime you change folder you need
to enter the name of the new folder into the now open text document.

If you are using the default install then your file path should be: C:\Program Files\Eidos\Championship
Manager 2008\
Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

If you are using a different file path then you need to start with your harddrive letter. For example you can
get G drive or A drive. So to start with put A:\

This donates the harddrive for the program to look into. After this you are likely to be going to program
files, so you now increase the text so it now reads A:\Program Files\ making sure you put a backslash at the
end of each file. Repeat the above step until the last folder is Championship Manager 2008. Put a backslash
(\) at the end of the filepath to be sure the program works.

Now for the last part of installing the editor. You will need to go to your CM2008 folder and go inside here.
You will find a data folder with the cm2008 folder, which you will need to open. Now you need to make
every file and folder within here non-read only. For XP users right click the file and go to properties and
then deselect read only. Press ok and the file should be non read only. Do this for every file and folder
within the data folder and files within the folders. For vista users repeat this process, but instead of just
finishing there you need to right click the files and go to security. You will then need to grant access to it.

That should be you sorted now, if you have any problems feel free to ask on the getmanaging forums:

Usage

Main Menu

By now you have the editor set up and you want to rush about madly changing the stats of Ronaldo so that
he is the worst player in the world, and introducing yourself to the Barcelona Line up, but we have to tell
you how to use it without breaking your PC or the game. The main menu is where you can locate to
anywhere you want to editor. It’s the backbone of the editor really, and is the form you are most likely to
see.

In version 2.0 of the editor there are a total of nine buttons on this page. Club Data, Squad, Player Data,
Staff, Currency, Area, Show Team, Stadium, About and Exit. We’ll start with the most obvious. Exit is in
the bottom right of the form and should be pressed whenever closing the editor to be sure the editor closes
fully. It will close the program down completely and all the form that can be displayed, no matter how
many you have open.

The about button takes you to the about page, which just shows you details of the editor aswell as a few
thank you’s. Something that noone will be interested in, but still it is there if you want to take a look.

All the other buttons take you to different parts of the program’s and as such will be described one at a
time.

Club Data

Upon clicking this button a message box will appear reminding you to make a back of the database folder.
To do this you must go into your CM2008 folder and make a copy of the data folder. Press ok once your
done.

You will now be confronted by a full screen form with lots of boxes containing blank data. There is a
reason for this. You need to import all the data for it to fill up. We choose not to load it all in for you
straight away due to the fact it can take a bit of time for the data to be loaded in, and when you get used to
it all, you just want to skip this page. If you import all the data it will list every single club in the game and
their id numbers aswell as a few bits of important data to do with each club.
Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

From here you can navigate into a few different places. In 2.0 you can navigate to the add club name and
edit club details sections. Adding a new club is currently not an option, but you can rename a club to
whatever you want.

The add club name feature works in a unique way. When you open the file up you are presented 2 boxes,
one with a unique number inside it and another one which is blank. You have to note down the number
before you enter a team name in the blank box. This number represents the clubs name, so is very
important. You must press save afterwards for the name to be entered in the database.

On the edit screen you can use what you just created. First things first is to load a club into the editor.
Included with the editor is a notepad file with a list of teams called allclubs. You would be best to search
this file using the built in search function for wordpad. To bring it up press ctrl and f at the same time or go
to edit then find. Enter then club name or part of the club name you are looking for and press find, this will
bring up the clubs data entry in the database.

Once you have found the club you wish to edit then go onto the edit club screen and enter the club record
number and press import. It will now import all the data and may take a minute to do so. Just give it that
minute to go into your database and bring up all the data on screen. Once the screen has finished loading a
number of boxes will appear and lots of data will fill all these boxes.

The things that will appear are:

- The clubs name aswell as the unique id for this name
- The clubs Nation
- Club’s Bank balance
- Club’s Loans owed
- Club’s expected TV revenue
- The club’s default game day
- Whether the club has a youth team or not
- The club’s youth development
- Whether the club is in administration
- If the club is a national team
- If the club is a PLC
- The year the club was founded
- The clubs reputation
- League Attendance Records
- Ticket Prices
- Sponsorship details

I will tell you now so when you start editing it won’t crash, but you can’t enter any text at all in this screen.
Eventually you will be able to, but at the current time you can only enter integer’s (Whole number’s). Some
of the values may look weird, for example dates, this is because the game hasn’t been set any of these for
some clubs, so you get bizarre readings. I suggest you change any that you see to reasonable dates, but if
you don’t want to change them, the numbers for days and months are 255 and the years are 4294967295.
These values mean that the game will assign a value when it starts up, rather than you having to assign it.

To change the club’s name you must make sure you have that number you wrote down earlier when you
made a club name up and placed it in the database. Place this number in the box next to the club’s name
and you will notice the clubs name changed in this box.

You can then make changes to everything on this page, and it should work in game, I have tested as much
of it as I can and a number of people have been testing it since it was introduced, but sometimes new errors
appear depending on machines, as I ultimately can’t test every eventuality. I would suggest you don’t go
over 900m for any of the money values as this may make the game go into the wrong side of the minus sign
for your club. Repuation and youth development can not be put as a number higher than 100, so doing so
may cause error’s when you go to open your game. As a safe guard don’t go over 99.
Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

I would also suggest not changing a club’s nation unless the club is in a non playable league, as this may
cause the game to error out. I have personally not tested this feature yet, and I have had noone report any
errors back yet, so we should be safe.

Once you’d finished making changes press the save Data button, this will save any changes. The refresh
button will update any values on the page that may have changed in a different part. The main ones here are
how long the sponsorship goes for and how much the team will get per season. It basically performs all the
calculations for you on the page.

Squad

This is a really basic and easy page to use. When you click the button a form takes a minute to load and
when it appears everything is listed. It lists the squadid, clubid and club name for every squad that is in the
game. The alternative to this is the squadlist, which as been created since this page was made.

Player Data

This is the main feature of the editor, being able to edit any player of your choice. In Version 2.0 you can
do an awful lot more than in the original 1.0 version. There is now so many different options on here, I’m
running out of room to place new features on the page.

To work on a player the first thing you need to do is find a player record number. To do this there is a file
called allplayers.txt included will the editor. This file contains a list of every single player in the game and
their record number. Unfortunately I didn’t make it easy to find a player as I added a silly line between the
first name and second name of every player. You can still search for a players name though using the
inbuilt search function of wordpad. To do this press ctrl+f and then enter the players name with “ – “ placed
between the names. Obviously don’t use the speech marks, or you won’t find anyone!

Once you have found the player and opened the player edit screen, you need to load up the players details.
To do this enter the record number in the top right hand box where it says please enter record number. Once
you have done so press import and the player data will take a moment to load. There is an awful lot of
information to load, so don’t expect any sort of rush.

The first feature I shall explain is new to version 2.0. This feature is the ability to change a player’s name to
whatever you want to. To do this all you have to do is type a new name in the boxes where it says the
players name and then press the change players name button. Once you have done this do everything you
want to do and press the save data button. This will then change his names. If you want to see it working
you will have to reload the player in the editor.

The next set of things that are on this page are the stats. Depending on which player you load different
stats will appear. If you load a goalkeeper the stats you can change are completely different to the ones you
can see if the player is an outfield player. All of the bits of data have a maximum value of 100, except the
tendencies section, where 15 is the highest value that can be entered. Entering a higher value will return an
error when you try saving the data.

The other box shows you the players current and potential abilities, aswell as height, weight and date of
birth. These are all key features in determining how good a player is and can all be changed to any value
you see fit to change them to, with a certain amount.

Now onto the most key part of this page. The transferring part and all the options on what to do on here.
We’ll start with the options you can tick to change settings. We have 5 options on this page for what you
can do and one of them needs to be ticked to make the editor save any data changes you make. The first one
Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

is the most obvious, transferring a player club. This option allows you to make a straight swap between
clubs.

The next option is Change stats only, which does exactly what it says on the tin. It will changes the players
stats and name only.

The next option is the loan deal option. This option will allow you to move the player out on loan, once you
have filled all the boxes below the options in correctly. (Explained below)

The 4th option is to delete the player contract so that the player is unemployed. It will remove a player from
their current contract, so that they have been signed on a bosman free transfer or moved at a later date using
the editor.

The final option is give the player a club button. This should only be used on player’s who have no contract
to start with, else the game will go tits up and error like mad.

The last thing you need to know is how to fill the transfer box in properly. Everything is self explantory
really other than the clubid and squadid, so I will explain these in more detail first. Included with the
download there is a squad.txt file. This file allows you to see the squad and clubid of every team in the
game. Use wordpads search function to find the club you want and get the squadid and clubid and enter
these in the right way round. If you enter them the wrong way round you may move them to the wrong
team.

The contract buyout can be entered as –1 and this will make the game assign a random value that it will
calculate for you.

Staff

This option takes you primarily to the staff list page, which now also have a txt file associated with it,
included with the download. The list just lists every single staff member in the game and their staff record
number. At the start of the game before adding anything there are 11109 different staff members to be
listed here, so when you press get data it may take a few moments to load everything in and the program
may look like it has crashed.

You have two other buttons on this page other than the import button and they are edit staff member and
back. The back button takes you back to the main menu, but the edit staff member button takes you to a
page where you can edit a staff member of your choice.

When you click the button it may take a minute to load up as there is a bit of data the program needs to
import for the program to function properly. Once it has opened up a number of boxes will appear, that
appear blank for the moment. The one you need to pay attention to is staff record number box at the very
top. In here you will need to enter the staff’s record number so you can import all the data to edit it. To find
a persons record number go to where you extracted the editor download to, and find a file called staff.txt.
This file contains a big list of every single member of staff in the game.

To find someone in particular use wordpads built in find function, and enter the staff member’s name. This
should take you to the staff members name, but to be on the safe side enter the number that appears next to
him and click import. This will show you if the person is the one your looking for if you look at the current
contract part. When you import a staff member it may take a minute to load due to the amount of data
needed to import.

When you have imported a person the following will be shown:

- Name
Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

- Date of Birth
- Job
- Attributes
- Contract Details
- Other details

There are a number of built in validation checks to make sure you don’t go over the number for stats that is
the maximum. Once you’ve imported a person you can make changes to their stats and also their role at a
club. You can also make it so that the staff member can change clubs through the use of the transfer system
built into the editor.

You have 3 options to do on this page. Change stats and do nothing else. Change stats and make the staff
member unemployed or change stats and give him a new job. You don’t have to change stats, but the editor
treats it like you are, but no values will change. To make a staff member unemployed select the make staff
member unemployed button and press save after making any other changes you wish. This will take him
out of a job. To move a staff member club you need to press the transfer staff member button. You will
then need to enter all the details below the button to complete the transfer. If you are moving a manager
club’s make sure you remove the previous manager or the game will error out and cause all sort of havoc.

None of the values on this page can be made higher than 100, and any zero value is shown by the number
0. The game will assign these. Once you’ve made changes you press save and the game will save all the
data for you to use in game. You must press save after every single staff member edit before moving onto
the next one, unless you don’t want to keep changes. You will lose all changes just importing a new person
without saving first.

Currency

This page doesn’t really do a lot, but it’s still there. It shows you the current exchange rates, currency
symbols and names of currency’s. Eventually you will be able to do something here, but not right now.

Area

This page is much like the currency page. It doesn’t really do anything other than list items in the database
for reference. I’m still working on something to do with this, but have not actually decided to implement it
yet.

Stadiums

This is a new feature for version 2.0. The stadiums page allows you to edit the details of a stadium for in
game use. There isn’t a lot that can be changed, but then again, why would you want to?

The first thing you need to do is find the stadium record. To do this you will need to go to where you
extracted the download or where you are storing the helpful text files. With the files there is a file called
stadiums.txt. This lists every stadium within the game and their record number. As with every form so far
you can use the search function to find any stadium you want to that is currently in the game.

Once you’ve found it get the record number and enter it into the very top box before pressing import. This
will load up the stadium you wanted. The details you can edit will appear in the boxes.

The boxes on here are defined below:

Getmanaging.com Editor Read Me v2.0 Produced by Mark Forrester

- The expandable check box allows the user to decide whether a stadium can be expanded in the future
or not. Checked represents it can be, uncheck represents it not be able to.
- Expansion capacity is what the stadiums maximum size will be after planned expansion. For example
if you were going to increase a stadium size from 1000 by 2000 you would enter 3000 as this is 1000 +
the 2000 you are planning to build.
- Maximum capacity is the current maximum capacity of the stadium and is the highest number of
spectators the stadium can hold.
- Seated is how many of these can be seated at any one time
- Under soil heating is whether the stadium has under soil heating or not. Tick the box if you want it to,
and if not untick the box.
- Retractable roof is the same as under soil heating except for a roof.

You can make changes to these, but don’t put numbers that are stupidly high as the game may overload and
break. Once you have made changes press save and the game will update with your changes.

Show Team

The main aim behind this page is to show every single player and member of staff that are at the club at a
point in time. It helps you to work out who needs transferring and who doesn’t and gives you a much
quicker way of finding a player with a common name. When you load the page it will take a minute to load,
but when it does you will see a number of boxes, which will be ready to list every play and staff member at
the club.

You will need the squad list to search for the club id number that you require. When you have found it you
should enter the number in the textbox at the top, once you have entered a number press search and the
boxes will take a few moments to load data into them.

Each squad will load into the different set’s of boxes with a label above them stating what squadid they are.
The staff will also be listed in a similar fashion. That is about all this page has to offer at the current time,
but I am looking to improve it.
