Tableau Bootcamp 1

AirBnB is an American vacation rental online platform company based in San Francisco,
California. Airbnb maintains and hosts a marketplace, accessible to consumers on its website or
via an app. Through the service, users can arrange lodging, primarily homestays,
and tourism experiences or list their properties for rental. Airbnb does not own any of the listed
properties; instead, it profits by receiving commission from each booking.

Data: Summary information and metrics for listings in Toronto. Review data and Listing ID

Steps 1. Open files saved on google drive

Go to the folder called Data then download the files:
Tableau1_Workbook_AirBnB_Toronto_v2020.1 and AirBnB logo
Open the downloaded workbook: Tableau1_Workbook_AirBnB_Toronto_v2020.1
Save workbook as First_LastName_Tableau1 extension TWBX (Tableau Packaged
Workbook)

Dashboard 1 AirBnB Toronto


Goal Create view with Bar chart, calculated field, and use filters
Step View one (Total Listing)
1.1 Open a worksheet and name it “Total Listing”
1.2 Make sure the “Toronto Listings” on the Data pane is highlighted
1.3 Add “Number of Records” to Text under the Marks card
1.4 Add “Room Type” to the Filter shelf and under General, use all
1.5 Click on Text in the Marks card and make the alignment middle and
centre
1.5 Right click on the green pill under Marks card and format it: Make it size
12 and Bold

View two (Number of Hosts)


2.1 Open a new sheet and rename it “Total Hosts”
2.2 Go to Analysis on the Menu bar and create a Calculated Field, name it
“Number of Hosts”
2.3 Add the formula: COUNTD([Host Id]) to count unique hosts
2.4 Add “Number of Hosts” to Text on the Marks card and Format it. Font
12 and bold
2.5 Click on the Text on the Marks card and align it middle and centre

View three (Top 10 Hosts)


3.1 Open a new sheet and name it “Top 10 Hosts”
3.2 Add “Host Name” to the Rows
3.3 Add “Number of Records” to the Columns
3.4 Edit colour on the Marks card, choose green
3.5 Add “Host Name” to the filter shelf. Go to “Top”, select By field: Top 10
by number of Records and “sum”
3.6 click Ok
3.7 Go the Toolbar and select entire view
3.8 Click on Label on the Marks card and select “Show Marks Label”
3.9 Go to the Toolbar and click on the Sort button in descending order
3.10 Right click on the x-axis and unclick “Show Header”
3.11 Hide field label by right clicking on it

View four (Top 10 Neighborhoods)


4.1 Right click on the “Top 10 Hosts” sheet and duplicate it
4.2 Rename it “Top 10 Neighborhoods”
4.3 Remove “Host Name” from Rows and replace it with “Neighbourhood”
4.4 Remove Host name from the filter shelf and replace it with
“Neighbourhood”. In the dialog box select Top, by field: Top 10 by
“Number of records” and Sum
4.5 Click Ok
4.7 Edit colour on the Marks card and choose red
4.8 Go to the Main Toolbar and click on the Sort button in descending
order
4.9 Hide field label by right clicking on it
4.10 Right click on the x-axis and unclick “Show Header”
View five (Most Rented Room Type)
5.1 Open a new sheet and rename it “Most rented room type”
5.2 Add “Room Type” to Columns
5.3 Add “number of records” to Rows
5.4 Add “Room Type” to colour
5.5 Go the main Toolbar and select entire view
5.6 Click on Label on the Marks card and select “Show Marks Label”
5.7 Right click on the y-axis and unclick the Show Header
5.8 Go to Analysis on the menu bar, Table Layout and untick “show field
label” to hide Room type on the field label

View six (Avg price per night)


6.1 Right click on “Most rented room type” sheet and duplicate it
6.2 Rename it “Avg Price per Night”
6.3 Remove “AGG(Number of records)” from Rows
6.4 Drag “Price” to the rows shelf and make it AVG
6.5 Click on Label on the Marks card and show marks labels
6.6 Right click on the numbers, select format and on the pane, select field
AVG(Price) and make it Currency (Custom)
6.7 Right click on the axis and untick “Show Header”

View seven (Review by Month)


7.1 Open a new sheet and rename it “Review by Month”
7.2 Select “TO reviews” data in the Data pane
7.3 Add “Date” from the second dataset (Number of Records) to Columns
and expand to Quarter and Month
• In the pill “YEAR” click on the plus(+) sign
• In the pill “Quarter” click on the plus sign
(+)
7.4 Add “Number of Records” to Rows
7.5 Make it Entire View
7.6 Add YEAR(Date) to the filter, in the dialog box select years then click
next and select use all then Ok
7.7 On the filter, right click on YEAR(Date) and Show Filter
7.8 Add “Number of Records” to the colour marks card
7.9 Right click on the months’ axis and format
7.10 Format Dates: Abbreviation
7.11 Right click on the y-axis and edit axis. Remove axis title and close the
axis editing box
7.12 On the marks card, change line to bar chart

Dashboard One (AirBnB Toronto)


Add the worksheets to the dashboard
Add title by bringing Text from the Objects
Add AirBnB logo by bringing Image to the dashboard, fit image and centre

Goal Create a map and table
Step View eight (Listings)
8.1 Open a new sheet and rename it “Listings”. Select “Toronto Listings” data in the
Data pane
8.2 Highlight “Latitude” and” Longitude” by clicking and holding control key or command
key right click and convert to Dimensions
8.3 Highlight “Latitude” and” Longitude” by clicking and holding control key or command
key
8.4 On “Show Me” on the top right, select symbol map
8.5 Add “Room Type” to the colour cards under marks
8.6 Add “Calculated Host Listings Count” to size on the marks card
8.7 Add “Host Name” to the tooltip on the marks card
8.8 Click on color on the Marks card and add border (grey)
8.9 Add “Host Name” to the filter shelf and go to Top, by field, Top 30, “Calculated Host
Listings Count”, and Average
8.10 Add “Last Review” to the filter shelf. In the dialog box choose Years then next
and under General choose “Use all” then ok
8.11 Show filter
8.12 On the Map tool bar, go to Background Maps, and choose street

View nine (Room Type)


9.1 Open a new sheet and rename it “Room Type”
9.2 Add “Room Type” to Columns
9.3 Add “Measure Names” to Rows
9.4 Add “Measure Values” to Text on the Marks card
9.5 On the Measure Values card we will keep AGG(Number of Records), SUM(Calculated
Host Listings Count), make (Minimum Nights) AVG, keep SUM(Number Of Reviews),
AGG(Number of Hosts) and make (Price) as AVG. Remove SUM(Availability 356) and
CNT(migrated Data)
9.6 On “SUM(calculated Host Listings)”, right click on it and select Quick Table
Calculation make it “Percent of Total”
9.6 Right click on “Minimum Nights” and make it as AVG
9.7 Make SUM(Price) as AVG
9.8 Move SUM(Number of Records) to the top of Measure Values card
9.9 Add “Last Review” to Filter Shelf, select Years and Use all
