Chapter 1: The beginning

Wayne Ellson lay in his bed unable to sleep again after

being rudely woken by the neighbours. They were
arguing again, helped along by the mad barking of their
5 dogs, about what he was still unsure. Angry voices
were now also starting to rise up throughout the usually
peaceful neighbourhood of Thales but despite all the
commotion, all Wayne could think of was the amazing
dream he had just had about a girl he had never seen.
(Wayne Ellson was a boy of average build that enjoyed
goofing off and lying back whenever he could). As he lay
there, with the voices all shouting for quiet, he was
busily scouring his mind trying to remember her name,
he could remember everything about her, her smell, the
colour of her eyes, even the clothes she wore, but her
name was lost to him. Concentrating on this he slowly
drifted into a quiet and peaceful sleep. Morning arrived
and everybody seemed to have forgotten about the
minor disturbance of the previous evening. As he
dragged himself out of his bed, he cursed for having to
go to school, but he quickly cut himself short and

1
proceeded to undress from his plain pyjamas and dress
into the cold blue and bright green school uniform he
had now become so accustomed to. After spending a
lazy 15 minutes getting dressed he went to have his
breakfast which was almost always the same, pancakes,
4 warm pancakes with lots of syrup and a freshly
brewed cup of coffee. He had the same breakfast since
the beginning of high school; it was probably because
he enjoyed having a routine, with a routine there is a
certain degree of predictability and that he loved. After
his breakfast as per usual he would push in his chair,
look at the time and slowly make is way up to the
bathroom where he sometimes grabbed an extra 5
minutes of sleep if he had a rough night. Standing in
front of the mirror he would put on a smile, comb his
hair (at least 5 times) until he was satisfied and brush
his teeth to perfection. After completing these morning
rituals he would look at the time again. On this
particular morning when he looked at the time he saw
that he was late, really late. He ran out almost knocking
over his mom, who was standing outside asking if he
was almost done. He muttered a reply waved to his dad,
grabbed his bag and rushed out the door, fearing he
would miss his ride to school. At 7 o’clock each day he
would stand outside Mrs. Stewedson’s garage door
waiting for it to be unlocked, since she always took him

2
to school because she taught there and both her
children went to school there as well. Today he saw that
it was already 15 minutes past 7, so he ran down the
street as fast as he could carrying his heavy bag which
hopefully still contained all of his books and his pencil
case. When he came to a halt outside Mrs. Stewedson’s
house he was glad to see that Alyn (Mrs. Stewedson’s
son and Wayne’s best friend) had just started lifting the
door so they could get going. Alyn gave a cautious wave
to the out of breath figure puffing his way up the drive
way. “Hey where have you been, we almost left without
you man?” asked Alyn. “I, I, I was running a little late
today sorry.” replied Wayne trying to catch his breath.
Wayne quickly popped his bag into the trunk of the car
and proceeded to climb in so they might be on their
way. The journey to school was pretty un-eventful, until
another car pushed in front of them. Now being the
level headed and patient person that Mrs. Stewedson
was, she started yelling and honking her horn for the
next half a kilometre, only calming down after have a
nice rant to herself about the degree of incompetent
drivers that were on the roads these days. Pulling into
the gates of the school Wayne had the strangest feeling
that today was going to be a very pleasant day. The first
two periods shot by (since Wayne had almost slept
through them) while the remaining two dragged on as

3
always, mocking the pupils before they could
experience the joy of break time. At last break time
arrived and he was free from the prison that enslaved
his soul even if it was only for 30 minutes. During break
Wayne and Alyn would merge together with the rest of
the group they had dubbed the deranged 9 after their
favourite book. The group consisted of William (the
devourer of lunches), Arty (the nervous chess club jock),
Nicholas (the brainy but sometimes over expressive
thinker), Marcus (the usually clueless fool that always
ends up as group jester), John (the quiet and probably
insane psychopath), Walter (the happy go lucky fifth
team hooker), Alyn (the starter of ideas), Armando (the
most likely to be voted as a head leader candidate) and
lastly Wayne (the loud mouthed, pick a fight ,must be
right and self proclaimed leader). As the deranged 9
they yelled more than they actually spoke since it
turned out that whoever yelled the loudest got
attention first. Break never lasted long but they usually
got a lot done, like debating the newest football scores,
the newest political issue that surfaced and even the
odd argument every now and again. With all the
different personalities normal wasn’t a befitting name
for them at all, so thus they called themselves the
deranged 9. They were all sitting on their favourite
meeting spot (the shadow of a medium size pine tree)

and enjoying their lunches, with William enjoying his
lunch as well as half of Marcus’s lunch. The tree I should
mention is only a few metres away from the main gate
probably so that they could always have a small glimpse
of freedom or any new pupils that were worth debating.
As soon as they heard the gate move all heads shot in
its direction curious to see what is coming or going.
Wayne looked over almost in a dreamy state but was
instantly over his haze when he saw who was standing
on the other side of the gate. As lady luck would have it
standing there, was the girl Wayne had dreamt of.

Chapter 2: Strange coincidences

As wayne sat ther gaping at the girl he had dreamt of
the others wasted no time and began debating the new
girl. Wyane however couldn't take his eyes off her, she
wore exactly what he had dreamt, a violet vest over a
yellow shirt with a black mini skirt. He was caught in her
web he knew it because try as he might he just couldn't
look away, the rest of the world stared fading into the
background. Suddenly they were all alone on an empty
white plain no sound, no noise nothing around then. "
So you are the one we've nbeen searching for?" she
asks with a face full of dissapointment. " Wait what do
you mean?" he asked. She stared hard at him, making
him feel quite uncomfortable." Your name is Wayne

5
yes?" she asks with a faint british accent. "Uhm yes I am
but how do you know my name and where are we, what
is going on?" Wyane answers back a slight shiver
running down his spine. " All in do time" the girl replies
and then she vanishes. Wayne snaps out of it and is
back with the group, they are still busy talking about the
girl and arguing about what age she might be. Deeply
confused he just sits there thinking about what just
happend.
