Answer 1 individual (ethical dilemma)

I am sharing an incident which happened to me in my graduation days. My college administration

decided to arrange spardha which is sport day event in which all sports like football, cricket,
volleyball, and some indoor games were played between junior and senior of every course. I decided
to take part in cricket as I was good in bowling. The time come for selection of the team, I gave my
name as a bowler for my course cricket team. My team had some good players who (Utkarsh,
Robert) have represented their state in cricket. Robert was good batsman and Utkarsh was
handsome allrounder as both represented their state in cricket and are good in playing cricket, they
were given opportunities to select my course team. Now the day come, for screening the players and
selecting them to form team. As a bowler I was given chance to ball, and everyone was impressed by
my bowling. During practice time my bowling was improving, and other team player were apricating
my bowling too. Finally, on selection day I was selected as bowler of my UG Blaster team. We played
some practice matches with the other team in those team I was the lead bowler of my team. In
practice match I bowled four over, conceded 12 runs and taken 2 wicket this was the best bowing
figure from any bowler from entire team. In another practice match my performance was same but
my team captain (Utkarsh) was not happy with my bowling. Instead of apricating he was telling me,
if I will bowl like this in spardha than opponent team batsman will take advantage of my bowling
speed and will conceded more runs in my overs.

On the day of spardha, our match was scheduled in the evening at 4:00 PM with the MBA Capitals
this match was knockout match, the team who is going to win will move to the semi-final and the
other team will be out of tournament. MBA Capitals was said to be best team of my college they
were good in batting and bowling. My team playing 11 was not decided Utkarsh (Capitan) told my
team he will disclose the playing 11 just before the match. We were fifteen players and out of which
4 must sit out. Now the time come to listen playing 11 names of our team. I was shocked that my
name was not in playing 11 and two new player name was included as bowler in team who joined
the team previous day. The two-bowler (included in team) were selected based on last day practice
(as they bowled faster than me) they did not play any practice match nor done much blowing
practice. I did not question my captain about the selection. I followed my Capitan order and act as
supporting staff for my team. While I was sitting out of ground as supporting staff, friends and other
students at my college were questioning about the selection. They were asking me that why I was
not selected in team? Utkarsh choose to bowl first after winning the toss. First over was bowled my
Nilesh (new boy in the team) and he conceded 24 runs in the first over. The very first over, brings the
confident of my team down. This continued and at the end of 10 th over my team conceded 146 runs
to win the match 147 runs were needed in 10 overs. At the end of second inning my team score was
90 runs for 7 wickets. My team lost that match by 56 runs, this happened because of poor selection
process of the team. Two players were selected in team and that too without practice this brings
down the moral and confident of other players and due to this the players did not perform well in
the match.

In the above situation I think Utilitarianism theory of business ethics applies in my story as this
theory utilitarianism says that theory of morality that advocates action that foster happiness or
pleasure and oppose actions as when I was not selected in team I was totally broken because my
bowling was much more better than the players who were selected in the last moment and I think
that if I was in team than my team would have won that game. Coming to the rating I will give 8 out
of 10 because I respected my Capitan’s decision, I did not even question him that why he did not
select or on what bases he choose the other two. Listening to the decision of Capitan shows your
sportsmanship towards the team and game.

Professional (ethical dilemma)

As I am fresher, so I am sharing my college incident.

In this story, I will be sharing my incident which I thinks I did wrong. The day was Monday, I wake up
late in the morning had my breakfast and went to college. Everything was good that day, I attended
my first class that was financial accounting. My college timing was from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM After
the first class I started losing interest in class because none of my friends come to class that day. Two
of my friends were in college hostel and the hostel was in the college premises and I was day
scholar. Knowing that my friends will bunk classes that day I come to college because I never ever
had bunked any classes in my life before. Any how I manage to attend three classes till lunch. During
lunch time I met my friends who were in hostel I shared them whatever happened in class, and I told
them that I am not willing to attend any more class. Then one of my friends suggested me to write
leave application to coordinator for leave but seeing that day’s attendance coordinator did not sign
my leave application. While we were discussing some other section guy suggested to give bribe to
gateman so that he(gateman) can allowed me to go out of campus. But that idea also did not work
as gateman was very strict type of person. I tried every possible thing to go out of college campus
that day, but nothing worked that day. During the lunch time all were having lunch than one senior
come to meet us. We discussed the entire scenario about how I planned to skip the left classes. he
suggested me to jump the college boundary wall, at first, I was shocked but after thinking lot I come
to conclusion that I had no other options left. Senior was telling that whenever they must bunk the
classes, they usually jump the college boundary wall to see movies or doing some party in the clubs. I
was so hesitated to jump college boundary because I had never done this before. Finally, I jumped
the college boundary with the help of my friends. This was the first time I broke the rule I did not
slept that night, thinking about the whole incident. On next day I promise myself that I will never
ever repeat such incident in my life again. My coordinator come to know about the incident by one
of my classmates that I bunk my entire class post lunch. He(coordinator) called me in his cabin and
his first question was where were you post lunch why you did not attend the rest of the class? Sir
was so embarrassed by my last day action as I was very good student in his eye. Even he said he did
not expect such kind of behavior form my side. At that time, I feel this mistake was my life biggest
mistake and I promise myself and event to sir that I will never repeat such thing in future. As this was
my first bad behavior so sir gave me last warning.

I will relate this incident to norm theory of business ethics. Norm theory is those theories that
determine the moral rightness or wrongness of once action-based o the action’s consequences or
result. As mentioned in the story that I did wrong to my coordinator and classmates by presenting
such bad example (jumping the college boundary to bunk the class). This was not supposed to
happened I will give 4 out of 10 for my such action. To improve, now I make only true friend who
support me in good activities in future. if someone will again ask me to do such kind of wrong things,
I will not support them.
