Gateway Example
Logic Processor
8.1 Functional overview
ƒ The Logic Processor function enables developing customer-specific automated
applications for COM600.

ƒ Applications are programmed using the IEC 61131-3 logic editor (CoDeSys, Control
Development System).
© ABB Oy, O321(En), 1
1MRS751593-MTR

Logic Processor
8.1 Functional overview
ƒ The COM600 unit has the logic engine
(CoDeSys SP Runtime), which can load
and execute the created IEC 61131-3
applications.

ƒ Information transfer between the logic

engine and other COM600 components,
such as OPC Servers, slave clients and
WebHMI, is handled by the Logic
Processor OPC Server.

ƒ OPC Server enables the logic variables to

be connected to the process signals
available via different communication
protocols in COM600.
© ABB Oy, O321(En), 2
1MRS751593-MTR
Logic Processor
8.2 Features
ƒ Logic editor (CoDeSys V3 programming system) supports all five standard programming
languages defined by the IEC 61131-3 standard:
ƒ Ladder diagram (LD)
ƒ Sequential Function Charts (SFC)
ƒ Function Block Diagram (FBD)
ƒ Structured Text (ST)
ƒ Instruction List (IL)

ƒ Logic editor also supports online debugging.

ƒ Possibility to simulate the device.

ƒ CoDeSys SP Runtime system includes the following

features:
ƒ Loading and execution of the IEC 61131-3
applications
ƒ Debug monitoring for IEC applications

1MRS751593-MTR

Logic Processor
8.2 Features
ƒ The Logic Processor OPC server supports the following features:

ƒ Updating of logic variables based on process indication/measurement values

ƒ Controlling process control signals from logic variables
ƒ Logic variable presented as 61850 data object for other COM600 component
(HMI,slave clients)
ƒ Controls from HMI or NCC (via OPC client) to logic variable

Logic Processor
8.3 Configuration
ƒ Before starting to configure the Logic Processor, it is necessary that the process
communication has been configured.

ƒ The Logic Processor configuration in COM600 can be divided into the following tasks:

1. Building Communication Structure objects for the Logic Processor.

2. Creating the logic in the CoDeSys programming environment.
3. Building a cross-reference between process data and logic variables data by using the
Cross-References tool.
4. Creating virtual data objects in the Logic Processor OPC server and connecting the
data objects to logic variables with the object properties

Logic Processor
8.3.2 Creating the logic in the CoDeSys
ƒ Logic Processor IED must be added to the communication structure before starting the Logic
Processor CoDeSys programming environment.

ƒ A default POU (Program Organization Unit) PLC_PRG is available in the structure tree,
under Application, when CoDeSys is first time opened.

ƒ More POUs can be added under the application

1MRS751593-MTR

Logic Processor
8.3.3 Making cross-references
ƒ After the logic has been created in CoDeSys, the cross-references need to be done in SAB600.

ƒ The cross-reference tool is opened by right-clicking on Logic Processor IED and selecting
Cross References.

ƒ The variable selected from the CoDeSys symbol configuration is shown in the PLC Server
Path column.

1MRS751593-MTR
Logic Processor
8.3.3 Making cross-references
ƒ Correct data objects need to be dragged and dropped on to the proper row in the Cross
Reference tool

ƒ Cross References tool automatically fills in a default data attribute to be used

ƒ Data attribute can be changed by selecting the row and clicking Edit Row to open the Data
attribute selection dialog.

ƒ The Direction field is used for setting the direction of the value transfer, either from data object
data attribute to logic variable (->) or from logic variable to data object data attribute (<-).

Exercise 1:
Connectivity Package and building the process
communication
In this exercise we build the communication down to the REF615 relay
using IEC61850 protocol.

First thing to do is to make physical connections between computer Æ

COM 600 Æ REF 615

The IP addresses of PC and COM600 have to be in same range.

Otherwise it is not possible to upload/download configurations with SAB600
tool. In our class room computers will get the IP addresses automatically
from same area/range than REF615 and COM600. Last digit of IP
addresses in REF and COM are referring the number of table/simulator.

You are able to check your PC IP address by opening command prompt.

Select StartÆRun.. and write cmd. Write ipconfig in the command prompt
and press enter.

1
COM 600 Series Exercises

Now you are able to check if the connection to COM 600 is communicating.
You can ping the IP address of COM 600. Write ping <IP address of
COM600>. If you get reply from the IP address then communication is ok.

Connectivity Package
Before we start to work with Communication Engineering Tool we have to
open Connectivity Package Manager and activate connectivity package for
REF615.

The Connectivity Packages assists when connecting an IED to e.g. COM

600.

1. Open up the Connectivity Package Manager located on the Desktop

2. Open up the tree structure and select REF615 under COM 600.

3. Click OK in the Connectivity Package Manager.
