Time : 2½ Hours] [Maximum Marks : 75

Before answering the question-paper candidates should ensure that they have been supplied
to correct and complete question-paper. No complaint, in this regard, will be entertained
after the examination.

Note : Attempt Four questions in all. All questions carry equal marks.

1. (a) State Huygens principle.

(b) State applications of ultrasonic waves.
(c) What are musical waves ?
(d) What do you understand by environmental acoustic ?
(e) What are forced vibrations ?

2. (a) How energy is transmitted through waves ? Drive expression.

(b) What are stationary waves ? How are these produced ?

3. Discuss the superposition of waves. Drive expression amplitude for superposition

of N waves using graphical method.

(3)(D20)M-C511 1 P.T.O.
4. (a) How a sound wave is produced and propagated ? Define sound speed and
sound intensity.
(b) How beats are formed by the interference of sound waves ?

5. (a) A body emitting sound of frequency 350 Hz is dropped from a balloon rising
vertically with constant velocity of 2 m/s. Calculate the frequency of sound
as felt by the observer in the balloon 2 s after the release. (Take velocity of
sound in air as 335 m/s; acceleration due to gravity is 10 m/s).
(b) What are supersonic and shock waves ? Explain their formation.

6. Discuss various types of microphones with their basic working.

7. (a) Define the term pitch and frequency, quality and complexity, loudness and
intensity of sound waves.
