pictures? : According to a journal article written by Ivan Muñoz published in November 2010

of carbon dioxide a year through eating. Through eating we increase the amount of water pollution by
giving off nitrogen and phosphorous. Think about this each person unwillingly contributes to the
problems occurring in the environment. For this topic I found that there was an abundant of sources to
choose from. The five sources I chose are Global Warming from the opposing viewpoint series published
in 2006 by Thomas Gale. An article I found from 01/07/2010 written by the University of Michigan

Then I chose another article I found published in 2006 by Clive crook describing the environmentalists

also chose a cartoon from http://leaningstraightup.com/2007/03/07/ created in 2007 by Dana
Summers. Then lastly I chose an article by Ken Abramczyk published in 2010
http://www.hometownlife.com/article/20101107/NEWS16/11070506 . Today I am going to persuade
you to recognize the failed attempts of others on stopping the environmental issues in the
United States. My three main points I will address are environmental issues, political cartoons and
going green.

There are many types of environmental issues but I will only be addressing three. The first issue I
would like to address is global warming. According to Global Warming Opposing Viewpoints published in
2006 global warming is a controversial subject. There are many scientific reasons that global warming
exists but at the same time there are those who can find falseness in the idea. Several factors all leading
to global warming are sport utility vehicles and solar activity. Sport utility vehicles or more commonly
known as SUVs are a big part of global warming. The reason being is that they give off too much carbon
dioxide contributing to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect makes the earth’s temperature
increase. An increase in temperature even slightly can cause a rise in heat and humidity to expand. But it
said that carbon dioxide levels are expected to double over the 21 st century which will then make a more
hostile environment. Another reason for global warming is solar activity. It is said that “When the sun
radiates more energy, the Earth experiences global warming...” the reason for global of warming is
found not to be about the amount of carbon dioxide in the air even though it is a factor for other topics.
Solar activity can be measured and the outcome is that the sun control climate change. The sun can hit
at various points and the way we measure this is tree rings and ice cores. This all depends on the suns
position to the earth. Let’s say the earth is closer the more radiation earth receives thus heating up the
temperature. But when the sun is farther away it allows the earth to cool. The process of global warming
occurs when the sun stays close to earth for too long. Both SUVs and solar activity will have an effect on
the people. For SUVs every day there is millions of dollars spent on oil. Oil adds to the environmental
issues through oil spills and several other factors. The people of America need to be protected from
these changing climates. If the issues are not solved, the earth will only continue to get a worse climate.
Several of the effects will be a shortage on oil and extensive periods of heat or cold. Global warming is a
very severe topic and we should not take it lightly.
 The second issue I will be addressing is deforestation. According to

published by the University of Michigan deforestation occurs in many places across the world.
Deforestation is a part of biodiversity and global environmental change. The statistic shows in a world
total North America, South America, Europe and Russia are the top contributors to deforestation. The
process of deforestation is when land is first cleared through fire set by the people. This in turn is often
used as a source of fuel agriculture and architecture. The reason people do this is to make the world
economically stronger but they are forgetting that this has a big effect on the environment. When trees
are cut down or destroyed we are also killing the small life that lives within them. The ecosystem was put
there in the first place to create a balance of life and to be of assistance as well. Within the forest we
have probably lost new medical cures and food. Not only is this a problem but we are creating an
unhealthier environment for ourselves. The trees go through the process of photosynthesis when the
plant turns carbon dioxide into oxygen. But since there are no trees the carbon dioxide is free to enter
the ozone layer and destroy the ozone. We have been constantly hurting the ozone and the effect it will
have on us will be extreme. People will be affected by these environmental changes as well. The
environment and balance created becomes unbalanced creating a fluctuation in amounts of oxygen
levels close to the areas deforestation occurs. Think about the money spent on the process itself not just
the effect it has on the planet. We are spending hundreds of dollars to destroy new resources. Not only
but soon enough the damage will be irreversible.

Next I would like to move onto political cartoons pertaining to these environmental issues. I will be
addressing on cartoon that shows the reality of the situation that is going on even now. According to a
cartoon I found from http://leaningstraightup.com/2007/03/07/ there is quite the controversy on
what the politicians are really doing to help the environment become healthier. In the cartoon you see al
gore and Kermit the frog driving in this nice car. In the background you can see a cloud of smoke saying
30,000 dollar utility bill. This is representing how al gore is man who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the
walk. How he does not keep the environment clean but he says that the earth is in danger from the
pollution occurring. Now before you can understand let me tell you who al gore is. Al gore is an
environmental politician. He has a big influence on the efforts that are made to stop global warming. As
seen in his most recent film the inconvenient truth he has made many calculations on the harm that is
being done to the earth. Sure he made a movie and did a few calculations but think about that picture.
Al gore has only furthered the environmental disasters. His ideas are pure but his actions show what his
real feelings are. Everything he stands for is false and he too complains about global warming yet he
does not stop it, in fact he adds to the problems. He spent plenty of money to make this movie but it is
all blasphemy. This does not say much for the politicians of the green party. Politicians are only looking
out for the votes in this particular case. But what have they done to change the situations and difficulties
that the country faces. The environmental politicians do not help further the cause because they are not
interested on action. The only way for the environment to get better is to have people who actually care.

The last topic I would like to introduce is going green. I will discuss several ways to make the earth a
healthier place for everyone. According to an article by Ken Abramczyk published in 2010
http://www.hometownlife.com/article/20101107/NEWS16/11070506 is an example of what going green
means. This young couple not only saved money by going green but they also are keeping a healthy
environment around them. Solar panels are an item used to change light into electricity. Therefore
people are spending less money to heat up the house and are making the environment safe. This
method is useful and has become integrated into society. This will affect the environment because the
solar panels are taking in the sun’s energy. By taking in the energy this will lessen the effects global
warming has given the country. Solar activity will be lessoned and economically you will be saving money
by using solar panels. This is only one of the ways you can change the earth. Know think about all the
other ways you change the earth and how much safer the environment will be.

Today I persuaded you to recognize the failed attempts of others on stopping the environmental
issues in the United States. My three main points were environmental issue, political cartoons and
going green. I hope you will be able to make a difference because of me. Now that you have heard my
presentation I hope you will think about your actions in the world.is everything you do truly protecting
the environment. Maybe you will go out and try to make a difference to because each year the
environment is being destroyed by toxins and emissions. Remember the pictures I showed you well I
