5.2 CAPTURING FINGERPRINTS

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your fingers are too wet, it's recommended to place fingers on the
platen slightly to avoid blurry or smeared images. Make sure the majority of fingerprint
cores are appeared and captured. If your fingers are too dry, it is recommended to place
fingers on the platen firmly with proper pressure, and thus permit the operator to obtain
clear, legible fingerprint impressions..................................................................................................................

• Capturing 4-Fingers Slap

Step 1. Click “Initialize” button to get the device connected

Step 2. Select “L 4 Fingers or R 4 Fingers” function
Step 3. Select “Auto Capture”
Step 4. Click “Set Mode”
Step 5. Place left four fingers or right four fingers on the platen

Note:
When slap images are captured, the 4-fingers slap will be segmented into discrete single

• Capturing Rolled Finger

Step 1. Select “Roll Finger”

Step 2. Select “Auto Capture”
Step 3. Click “Set Mode”
Step 4. Roll a finger on the platen

Note:
There are two methods for rolling a finger in the capture process:
1) Nail to Nail
2) Rock and Roll Nail to Nail
When capturing the rolled fingerprint images using Nail to Nail method, the side of the
bulb of the finger (tip of finger to below first joint) is placed upon the platen with slight and
even pressure, and the finger is rolled to the other side (fingernail to fingernail) until it faces
the opposite direction. When capturing the rolled fingerprint images using Rock and Roll
Nail to Nail method, the finger should be pressed lightly on the platen with slight and even
pressure, same as that you capture single finger flats. After that, the finger is rolled to one
side of the bulb of the finger (tip of finger to below first joint), then back to roll to the other
side until it faces the opposite direction.

6. MAINTENANCE
It is recommended to clean the platen before capturing to ensure a high quality image of
the prints. Please read the followings when you clean the platen.

•Use the cleaning cloth provided to wipe the platen. Make sure the cleaning cloth is clean,
but not wet or dripping. Pay special attention to the corners and edges of the window
where dust may collect.

•Never spray cleaning fluid directly onto the platen! Always spray a cloth and then swipe
the reader with cloth. If you spray the cleaner directly on the reader, the cleaning fluid
may drip on the main circuit board, this could cause a short and ruin the board.

•Do not make the cleaning cloth wet! If the cleaning cloth is wet, this can cause the same
problem as if you spray the cleaner right on the platen.

•Never use an abrasive or gritty cleaner! An abrasive cleaner could scratch the surface.
