Abstract
Most people who are buying a watch have one major factor in common. These people are
looking for it to properly tell time. Another minor factor that both the Rolex and the Timex
watch have in common is the fact that they both are worn on the wrist and have the time
readily-available whenever needed. Determining which watch customers choose to buy depends
on other factors such as money or financial standings, durability and reliability, as well as social
normalization or fitting into societal standards. Creating value is the central part of marketing in
general. Both the Timex watch and the Rolex watch deliver value to target marketers in different
The main conclusion for this paper is that each product has its own factors that appeal to
marketers no matter the ranging price tags because of the value that each factor of the product
delivers to marketers, as well as the marketers consumers. The main reasons for this conclusion
are:
● Societal standards
Since 1854, Timex watches have had an impact on marketers and consumers all across
the United States (Watch Researcher, 2020). The Timex watch that costs $45 delivers value to
the target markets because it appeals to customers due to its price. The price of the Timex watch
draws the attention and interest of multiple societal and financial groups of customers because it
is not too out of the price range for all of the groups of people. For example, people who make
$20,000 or more annually and depending on other expenses and dependents in the household,
consumers will likely be attracted to the $45 price tag that the watch brings which delivers value
to target marketers for that major factor alone. Financially in today’s society, consumers are
looking to save money while having quality and effectiveness in the products that are purchased
which is something that the Timex watch accomplishes very adequately. For the factor of
inexpensiveness when it comes to the Timex watches, target marketers can not deny the value
Along with the affordable price, the Timex watch is appealing to marketers when it
comes to durability and reliability. Timex watches are known to be inexpensive and worth $45

due to how long the watch lasts most people. Timex watches have been built with some of the
most durable materials, such as long lasting batteries, which help add or create value to the target
marketers and obtain interest to customers. Due to Timex watch’s durability and quality,
consumers that work in harsh environments, such as construction workers, and others who
involve themselves in working out, such as swimmers and hikers, are heavily drawn to the
Timex watch. In this day and age, working out and staying active is a major part of most
consumers everyday life, so having a watch that can last through any type of vigorous workout
or activity will create value to target marketers due to its consumer interest that will be brought.
Also, with the price being affordable, consumers will be more likely to buy it because if
somehow the Timex watch does break, the consumer will be more apt to buy another one due to
Rolex watches bring along some different factors that appeal value to marketers even
with the big price of $10,000. Rolex watches are known for being hand-crafted with incredibly
detailed gems and metals that make these watches so unique. Along with the incredible detail
that these watches bring, they also are built with the latest and most advanced technology out
among the watch industry. Rolex watches are known to be more of a collectors item than an
everyday wear and tear watch, especially with the price that comes along with it.
Even though the watch is very prestigious, marketers notice the value in these Rolex
watches because of the societal standards of today’s world. For instance, most people that wear
these Rolex watches are considered to be “high class” and “wealthy” due to the steep price tag
that most average people can not afford to spend on a watch. Rolex watch consumers are
wanting a watch that can give them more than just the time and the date which is why they will
