Global warming, undoubtedly, has become one of the greatest threats facing the world today.
Indeed, its effects on animals and agriculture are frightening; its impacts on humanity are even
scarier. Contrary to the misconception propagated by some countries, it, ironically, has become
an economic, security, and spiritual challenge to developing and developed countries equally.
Overshadowing and, to some extent, overpowering all other concerns Pakistan faces today, the
impacts of global warming in the country has perhaps become the most destructive fact,
disturbing not only its economic fabric but also destabilizing its political culture. Having a
trickle-down effect, it has caused a change in the weather pattern, unseasonal rains and
heatwaves, and heavy flooding, affecting the country’s economy and making it dance on the
tunes of foreign donors. If the rise of greenhouse gases remains unchecked, the repercussions
can be catastrophic for Pakistan and for the region, too. As the crisis solution lies in well,
deliberate, uninterrupted, and sagacious decisions at the global and the national level, it
requires both the world’s and the national leaders to develop a unanimity of thoughts to
counter it. Moreover, at the national level, the issue demands engineers and scientists to
explore new renewable energy resource management avenues. Apart from it, implementing
4Rs-Strategy: reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover, and mass awareness about the importance of
plantation can help Pakistan overcome the crisis, undoubtedly linked with the future of the
country’s youth. The essay throws light on the threats of global warming, its devastating
impacts on Pakistan and the world, and practicable measures to counter it.
