ACTIVITY 1: ARE GLOBAL ISSUES THE SAME ALL OVER THE WORLD?
2

GIVE SEVERAL EXAMPLES (ATLEAST THREE) TO SUPPORT YOUR

ANSWER OF YES OR NO.

Global issues are the same all over the world because the whole world is
experiencing severe problems in their daily lives that affect the country
causing the census of a country to slow down. and it also affects citizens who
need work to save what they can eat or spend on daily living. These issues
include climate change, poverty, inequality, human rights violations, and
access to health care.
For example Climate Change, the world is now warming faster than at any
point in recorded history. Warmer temperatures over time are changing
weather patterns and disrupting the usual balance of nature. This poses many
risks to human beings and all other forms of life on Earth. The cause of
climate change is Cutting down the forests, When trees are cut down or
burned, this process is disrupted, releasing the stored carbon back into the
atmosphere and contributing to the greenhouse effect. Deforestation also
affects local and global weather patterns, leading to droughts, floods, and
other extreme weather events. There’s a lot of the cause of climate change in
the world but I will choose one example each example. The second example
was the poverty, Poverty entails more than the lack of income and productive
resources to ensure sustainable livelihoods. Its manifestations include hunger
and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social
discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-
making. Last example was inequality, Poverty and economic inequality are
pressing human rights problems in the United States. For many residents
living in poverty, certain human rights are out of reach. They may lack access
to safe work conditions, housing, education, health services, or clean water
and basic sanitation.

ACTIVITY 2: PEACE IN THE WORLD. Answer the following questions. IN

YOUR OWN WORDS!

1. What comes to mind when you hear the word peace?

3

 Word peace for me, symbolizes each others silence. where there is no
trouble, problem, or anything else that can destroy society or every
citizen.

2. What parts of the world really need peace?

 I think the world really needs peace when the war is completely stopped,
there will be no more trouble that can harm many people. no more
problems with food, people are free to eat whatever they want. able to
freely wear fancy clothes without having to spend a lot more. and there is
fast technology that can help students facilitate their learning.

3. Why do countries usually go to war?

 the only reason why there are often wars is because there is no unity and
there is no agreement on any decision for the country. and another one of
all wants to take over places just like russia and greedy for power. that is
the reason why there will always be wars in different countries.

4. What color do you think peace is? Why?

 White is the Universal Symbol of Peace. White doves have long been
seen as a symbol of peace. The color white is also a symbol of peace in
many nations. In fact, it is seen as the universal color of peace.

5. Do peace protests and movements help bring peace?

 Of course not. The qualifier “mostly” means that the protest was in fact
violent, but that whoever is reporting on it doesn’t want to own up to the
violence and wants do divert your attention away from the violence, but is
savvy enough to realize that if she just says “non-violent” she’ll get called
out for lying. So she lies with the truth, misleading you instead. If one bad
apple ruins the bushel of cops, so too does one bad apple ruin the bushel
of protestors.

6. What’s the best way of achieving peace in the world?

4

 be happy no matter what a person achieves, don't be greedy for the

wealth or power you have and above all love and respect your neighbor
as the most important thing of all. being humble in all things.

ACTIVITY 4: Answer the following questions. IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Situation 1: If you are the President of the Philippines, what will you do in
order to address the economic crisis that the country is facing right now?

 I think collaboration with other countries, if I am given the chance to be a

president of the philippines, I will address the economic crisis of our
country by collaborating with other countries. For example, we can
exchange goods or products in other countries to help boost our
economy. Also, Protect the Rights of OFW. Currently, there are many
cases of OFWs being abused, primarily in the Middle East. As President,
if the Middle East prove to be a continuous threat to OFWs, I will proclaim
a ban on working in the Middle East. Well-being comes before economy.
Instead, more occupations could be opened up by attracting foreign
companies.

Situation 2: if you will be given a chance to be an OFW, how can you

contribute to the economy of the country?

 If I will be given a chance to be a OFW, I will contribute to the economy by

transferring money to my family or loved ones and communities back
home, OFWs a contribute to the improvement of the Philippines'
economic situation. These remittances provide a sizable contribution to
the GDP of the nation and support economic growth. Additionally, while
working abroad, OFWs frequently pick up new skills and knowledge that
can help their home country when they return.

SEMI-FINALS RESEARCH
(Choose one topic from the choices shown below)

INTRODUCTION

Energy resources can be defined as materials or elements that can be used

to produce energy. Energy is a quantitative property, which produces an
output or a force that can be analysed. This energy can be in the form of
electricity, heat, or mechanical energy. The key potential of clean energy
sources is the replacement of emissions of greenhouse gas because of
production of fossil-fuels and thereby to reduce climate change. A priority of
many countries' recent national strategies, programs and growth plans has
been sustainable development. Sustainable development. The SDGs
emphasized more than the Millennium Development Objectives on the
science community and the requirements. In order to deal with climate
change, food, water health and health, renewable energy needs coordinated,
national monitoring and simulation of many social, economic and
environmental variables.

2. RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND SUSTAINABILITY

In addition to the population, global energy needs have contributed to the

continued utilization of the fossil fuel supplies, which have been troublesome
because of the generation of many problems, including loss of vestige fuel
stocks, releases of GHG and other environmental worries as well as
geopolitical or defense volatility and stepping up fuel prices. These problems
can create insecure situations that eventually pose a danger to human
societies that is potentially irreversible. Nevertheless, sustainable energy
sources are the right option and the only answer to the problems that emerge.
6

Reliable energy supply is important for heating, lighting, industrial

machinery, transport and so on in all economies. Supplies of renewable
energy dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions if combined with fossil
fuels. Given the fact that sources of renewable energy are naturally obtained
from ongoing climate energy flows, it should be affordable. Unlimited clean
solar energy and environmentally friendly goods and services are needed.
About the excellent advantages of renewable energy sources, certain
weaknesses exist, for example the discontinuity of the production since
seasonal fluctuations, as most renewable energy supplies depends on the
environment. Fortunately, ongoing technical advances in computer hardware
and software enable scientists to use green and sustainable energy-specific
computer equipment to address these optimization challenges.

3. RENEWABLE ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

In scientific and political discussions, the name "climate change" is

evidently of considerable significance worldwide as a whole. Since life began,
the environment has changed, but the rate of transition recently is worrying
and may be single of the global challenges. The degree of carbon productions
has been rising from last few decades to "about 1.4 ppm/year prior to 2.0
ppm/year later". Environmental change is described by the UN on
Temperature Change as existence straight or ramblingly caused by human
actions which modify the conformation of the global atmosphere and in effect
demonstrate variability over comparable periods in the natural environment.
Renewable energies are referred to as renewable sources of energy, as
well as the optimal utilization of such assets diminishes ecological
consequences, produces negligible subordinate leftover as well as is
affordable depending on economic and community demands at present and in
the future. Renewable energy solutions provide an unparalleled chance to
offset greenhouse gas secretions and minimalize global warming through the
substitution of conventional bases of energy (fossil fuels).

4. RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND TECHNOLOGY

7

Renewable energy resources are natural and constant energy resources in

our local world. The energy sources are the energy sources. This includes
geothermal, bioenergy and hydropower etc.

4.1 HYDROPOWER

Hydropower constitutes a primary source of water-based energy, primarily

utilized to process turbines as well as generates electrical energy, from
greater to lesser altitudes. Reservoir dam schemes, river run-of-water and in-
stream projects spanning a variety of projects include hydro power projects.
Hydropower technologies are physically advanced and their schemes take
advantage of a temporarily variable resource. The operations in the
hydropower reservoir also reflect their numerous uses, including flood and
drought management, irrigation, drinking water and navigation. Gravity and
the height at which the cascades join the turbine provide primary electricity.

4.2 BIOENERGY

Bioenergy is a form of biofuel green energy. Bioenergy is a major energy

source that cans transportation of biodiesel [7], electricity generation and heat
generation. Electrical energy from energy based on biomass utilizes a diverse
spectrum of materials, such as timber byproduct’s; farming remainders,
including sugar cane leftover; as well as manure of animals filtrates, including
dung of cow. One of the benefits of energy based on the biomass is that
energy is mainly a byproducts or leftover merchandise belongs to
aforementioned sources. It can’t substantially make antagonism between
nourishment and energy ground.

5. RENEWABLE ENERGY & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The worldwide clean drive distribution is universal and relatively less traded
relative to fossil fuels. It reduces oil imports and diversifies supply options
inventory and reduces a vulnerability of the economy to demand volatility and
offers prospects of improving global energy stability. Implementation of
8

renewables will also boost efficiency of energy supply, particularly in areas

where access to grids remains inadequate. The wellbeing can also be
improved by a large variety of drive bases, better controlling as well as
design.
5.1 SECURITY OF THE ENERGY

The idea of drive protection is usually utilized, but its exact meaning cannot be
defined in any way. However, energy protection concerns are grounded on
assumption that can have a constant stream of drive is necessary for a
budget to work. Taking into account the interdependence between financial
development as well as consumption of energy, the connection of developed
and developing countries to a stable supply of energy is of great significance
in the political environment, given that sustained interference would cause
substantial economical and essential working difficulties for the greater part of
society.

5.2 DEVELOPMENT IN SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE

Traditionally the drive market was seen as a portal to financial prosperity,

with a direct connection among economic development as well as extension
of drive usage. The global per capita income is absolutely connected with the
utilization of power per unit, and the most significant reason behind increased
energy use over recent decades can be defined as economic growth.

5.3 ENERGY ACCESS

Sustainable Development Goal seven is aimed at ensuring that electricity is

safe, sustainable, usable and open to everyone, and this can be
accomplished with renewable energy sources because it is commonly spread
around the world. There are problems of access to electrify in city as well as
rural regions, in particular in Sub-Saharan African as well as South Asian
regions, which are clearly different in the vast majority of countries. Clean
energy grids distributed normally provide significant possibilities for
9

renewable-energy micro- grid projects in remote areas with vast gaps to the
national grid and limited rural electrification rates.

ACTIVITY 1: REACTION PAPER (about THE SOCIAL DILEMMA)

To be honest, I didn’t know that Social Dilemma documentary will give me

chills and like it to watch again and again. It’s neither a thriller or happy/horror
etc. but the thought that it really happens in real life is what gives me
realization. Actually, I didn’t expect that it will caught my attention and learn a
lot from this documentary. It taught me not just what is behind on our devices
but also to make a stand when we see something wrong. I just don’t
understand how we are not aware that AI is playing with our weaknesses. Do
you think one day AI can replace us? I think no, because all of the things that
you can see here around the world was made by the people, like the
computer, WIFI, food, etc. The documentary about the social dilemma it gives
us a realization and also show us about the social media design and what the
social media behind of all this story, based on the documentary the social
media can also affect us like being addicted into different apps like Tiktok,
facebook, instagram etc. Like what Tim Kendall said in a documentary a
former executive of facebook, former president of pinterest and a ceo of
moment. he said the social media can’t affect of our eyes also in physically
and mentally. Why? Because in social media there’s a lot of fake news, bad
things that can affect in our lives. Like for example about yourself there’s a
people who always bullying you in person and then they posted your ugly
picture and put some funny captioned about it and sharing it on different
groups, it can cause anxiety depression to you. That’s the example of bad
thing about social media. But social media also can help us to search more
information about the place where want to go, or about your activity in school.
In politics, same with social media regarding about the issue in government
that can also post in social media like fake news about the economy situation
10

that can push to people to make a group and protests over government. After
watching the documentary I’ve learned a lot, this 5 was my favorite. First is
Think before posting in social media, like what I example earlier being not
searching more about the information regarding the things/topic you want to
post with, is can cause a problem or trouble to you because all of people
around the world are using social media, like facebook, instagram, tiktok etc.
The second was Wasting your time by using your gadget, by using your
gadget in hour because of social media can affect your eyes not only in your
eyes but physically and mentally and also you social media will suggest
videos or posts that you may like because the goal is to increase your screen
time so that companies can make money. It may take away your interest in
activities that you used to like, and you may find it hard to concentrate on
anything else. that’s why you need to settle your time, because time is GOLD.
Third was Having an interest to read things and get some opinion, Social
media is run by algorithms, which means it will feed you things that you like
based on your previous interactions with it. This can lead people to develop
extreme thoughts towards an issue or an event. Like for example if you think
BTS was the famous k-pop boy band in korea you must watch some video in
youtube, or read some information in google to keep you engage to watching
about them. ( I’m a fan of Hybe family especially BTS). fourth was Always
checking the fact news in social media, because not all the stuff or things
you saw in the internet are true there’s a lot of scammer that always build
such a wonderful message to just scam in many people. Last was You must
turn off your notification, the last thing that you need to do is turn off the
notifications why? Anything that keeps buzzing to get your attention, with
information that isn’t timely or important to know right then and there is not
needed. The one quote that I really remember from Aza Raskin former
employee of firefox & mozilla labs , Co- founder center for humane technology
and infinite scroll of inventor. He said “If you’re not paying for product then
you are the product”. means while you’re using the apps and there’s ads
means they’re collecting money. Because through watching ads they have an
income that’s why you are the product because you use their apps. I think the
key issue that I hear or watch in the documentary was the algorithm. What is
algorithm? A programming algorithm is a procedure or formula used for
11

solving a problem a mathematical process for solving a problem using finite

number of steps. Biased algorithms can perpetuate existing inequalities and
create a distorted view of reality, while also amplifying harmful or inaccurate
content. Furthermore, social media algorithms can also have an impact on
user behavior, such as encouraging addiction, polarization, and the spread of
misinformation.

ACTIVITY 3: What do you think about Globalization? In this activity, look for
and read three newspaper opinion editorials discussing globalization. You may use
local or international op-eds. Write a 50- word summary for each op-ed.

Op-Ed: In 2023, We Should Enforce the Law on Human Rights at Sea

The simple headline is that human rights protections at sea are still
overlooked, deliberately avoided, and conveniently brushed aside. 2023 is
shaping to be another challenging year for human rights defenders. These are
dangerous geopolitical times for maintaining and assuring hard-earned
fundamental human rights on land and at sea.

Op-Ed: PH Globalization, Industrialization and Tech -DTI Sec. Pascual

13 July 2023 –Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual

said Philippine business needs to globalize and industrialize to accelerate
growth.“Competition does not happen in a limited space, it has to be global,”
Sec. Pascual said in the sixth and last session in MBC’s F2F With Cab Secs
series. “I think we have a chance of industrializing through technology-based
industries” instead of other fields where neighbors have a bigger head start.

Op-Ed: The State of Globalization in 2023

Plummeting flows of trade, capital, and people at the beginning of the Covid-
19 pandemic prompted a wave of speculation about the end of globalization,
and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine brought even more predictions of a retreat
toward national self-sufficiency. The data shows a broad pattern of decoupling
between the U.S. and China, but the flows of countries that are geo-politically
12

aligned with the U.S. and China do not — at least yet — indicate a broader
split between rival blocs.

ACTIVITY 4: ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS.

1. Why is the word “Globalization given emphasis or importance in today’s

contemporary? Explain.

2. As a member of Generation Z, what is the effect of globalization to you, to
your family, in your school and in the society?
 In my own perspective, I think the globalization today or the changes that
happened in the world today was so helpful in many people of course in
my family, friends etc. Why? Because of the changes or new technology
invented that the world have today it helps us to have a good
communication to our family is in abroad it’s a big help because without
the new technology the internet rather, you can’t contact your family or
you can’t do the work you have in states thru online. But there’s also the
disadvantage in Generation Z why? because a lot of young people today
is experiencing negative emotions such as anxiety, strangeness and panic
because of social media like what I’ve said in the documentary that I had
wrote earlier social media is not good when you use it in bad things.
According to Resume Builder, the top three reasons Gen Z is difficult to
work with are lack of technological skills, effort, and motivation.
