Name of the Activity: Based on the topics under the Introduction part of the Course Outline and
the Historical evolution of OM from Industrial Revolution up to Scientific Management, please
answer the question below.
Question: Discuss at least 3 learnings that you gain from the discussion we had during our class this
afternoon.

Operating Management is the company function responsible for controlling the process of
creating goods and services, according to my understanding/learnings from our discussion. It entails
the coordinating, the planning, and the controlling all of the resources required to generate the
company's goods and services. Because operations management is a management function, it
includes managing people, equipment, technology, information, and any other resources required to
provide goods and services. The main role of every organization is operations management. This is
true regardless of the company's size, industry, manufacturing or service, for-profit or non-profit
status, or whether it is for-profit or non-profit. Operation management is a crucial tool that aids a
business in achieving its goals. To fulfill the objectives, this is required for a limited costs and time.

What I learned for the Historical Evolution of Operations Management in the Industrial Revolution,
economies based on large-scale industry, mechanized manufacturing, and the factory system is
developed from agriculture and handicrafts. Existing industries become more productive and efficient
as a result of new machinery, new power sources, and new ways of organizing work. And lastly for the
Scientific Management, Frederick Taylor was the one who established scientific management in the
early twentieth century and helped transform industrial production methods and general company
practices. Scientific management is also significant since its management technique can be found in
practically every industrial business operation around the world. Planning, process design, quality
control, cost accounting, and ergonomics are all involved in general business processes. You will gain
a better understanding of industrial management as a result of this.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, any business's total productivity and profitability are influenced by operations
management. It assesses the effectiveness of managers and other employees, allowing individuals
and businesses to make faster growth. The engine room of a business is where responsible decisions
and plans are made. Product design issues and delivery difficulties can be caused by a lack of proper
operations management. A well-designed operations strategy is the foundation of any business, as it
increases the probability of completing and shipping orders on time, keeping customers happy and
supporting the company's growth.
