Questions:

1. Before reading the article/s what do you already know about the topic?

I already know the word climate change as this is already been discussed since I
was in elementary, but I doesn’t really got my focus on it or give much attention because
I didn’t experience or I’d already experience the climate change but it just that it does not
affect me nor my family. I know that climate change from the word itself means the
changes upon our weather, and these changes are because of the wreckage or thinning of
our earth’s ozone layer.
2. Comprehensiveness of Information.

a. Why is the Philippines considered one of the most vulnerable country to the impacts of
climate change?

The Philippines was considered one of the most vulnerable country from the impacts/
effects of climate change because aside from our location that we’re surrounded by the bodies of
water which gives us more risks about high tides and other disasters and because of our countries
limited resources. This is also because of our countries high exposure to natural hazards,
dependence on climate-sensitive natural resources, and vast coastlines where all major cities and
the majority of the population reside. We are at the top three from the overall rank of climate
vulnerability and from the list of countries that are sensitive to extreme events we’re on the top.
Furthermore the Philippines become vulnerable because of the lack of funds and support from
providing an alternative natural source of energy to provide decrease of contribution from the
climate change that the world is experiencing.

b. What are the signs that climate change is happening in our country? (Provide at least 3
signs)

The signs that the climate change is happening in our country is when we’re experiencing
El Nino which is the unusual increase of temperature that causes severe drought and associated
food insecurity, then the opposite El Nina which means the unusual decrease of temperature
cooling of surface ocean waters that causes catastrophic floods, hurricanes and cyclones. The
other signs are the rising of sea level or the high tides that our country was experiencing and the
increase ocean acidity.
c. Why does occurrence of extreme climatic events have serious negative implications for
major water reservoirs in the country?

The extreme climatic events had serious negative implications for the major water
reservoirs in the country because of the preliminary and limited assessment of the country’s
water resources was undertaken through the application of general circulation model (GCM)
results and climate change scenarios that incorporate incremental changes in temperature and
rainfall and the use of a hydrological model to simulate the future runoff-rainfall relationship.
These extreme climatic events could affect the lives of the Filipinos as the changes of rainfalls
and temperature could result to higher risks of famine and extreme thirst.

d. What is the possible implication of issue in water reservoir in Philippine’s energy supply?

The possible implication of issue in water reservoir in Philippine’s energy supply are the
lack of use in hydroelectric plant for natural source of energy. Hydropower production, which
contributes 20 percent to the Philippines energy supply, is vulnerable to reduced water
availability cause by the climate change. Here in the Philippines the most popular hydroelectric
plant is the Agus VI that got its power from Maria Cristina Falls in the Northern Mindanao it is
also the primary source of electric power for the city's industries. Aside from that the other
critical energy infrastructure, like the offshore natural gas field of Malampaya, is vulnerable to
more intense and frequent storms.

e. What are the possible risks can climate change bring in health of the Filipinos?

The possible risks that the climate change can bring to health of the Filipinos are much
more than you’ll expected, aside from the waterborne diseases like dengue, malaria and diarrhea,
a leptospirosis due to exposure to contaminated water cause of the floods are also at risk. The
severe natural disasters will bring mortality and loss of livelihood of the people that will affect
the nutrition intake of every Filipino and will cause sickness and illnesses due to low immune
system.

f. What are the possible risks can climate change bring in infrastructure of the country?

The possible risks that the climate change can bring to the infrastructure of the country
are the damage that it caused to the urban infrastructure like the damage roads, bridges and also
the broken power poles that are cause by high temperatures, heavy rainfall and strong winds. In
addition to these are the damage water and sanitation facilities and the coastal floods and storm
surges will lead the damage of infrastructure and will cause the people to evacuate or migrate.
g. What possible measures must be done to cope with the country’s future water
resources problem due to climate change?
The possible measures to be done to cope the country’s future water resources problem due
to climate change are the expansion of the Angat and Lake Lanao Dams these is for the safety
and preventive measures for the effects of climate change to the country’s future water reservoirs
like the said two. Also a preparation is a must especially with the support of the government and
the Filipinos all over the country to decrease the risks or impact of the climate change in our
lives and health.

3. Climate Change Adaptation.

Search for recent and ongoing funded programs related to climate change adaptation in
the Philippines and describe its features in terms of the following Criteria:

and CCC
