When transportingon public roads withouta width exemptionand escort, the

R64 Boomend sections, third sectionsand one of the secondsectionsmust be
removedand carriedseparately, by traileror othermeans.(Theend sectionsand
third sectionscan be carriedunderthe secondsectionsof the boomwhichreduces

triangles must be fitted and the remainingBoomsectionsmustbe roped together
for addedsafety.

Care must be taken to allow for the Boomoverhangwhen turning. The 4 wheel

IMPORTANT

Do not exceed12 mph (20 kph) when towing. Excessivespeedcausesinstability

due to the sensitivesteeringand rigidchassisdesign.

ASSEMBLY. BOOM

For practicalreasonsseveralBoomsectionsare removedfor transportation, these

must be replaced together with the carryingbrackets. This should be done by an
experiencedfitter. On offsethosefeed Boom, fit drawbarto steering yoke and bolt
yyaterfeed pipeto crosslink. For straightpull Boomsthe drawbaris also the water
feed pipe. Securecheckchains(page17 fig 19). The Boom is now readyfor
operation.

POSITIONINGBOOM

The Boom can be positionedand movedas a one or two tractoroperation. We

recommendyou start off exactlyas you wouldmovea HoseReelgun. The 4 wheel
steeringallowsa 7.2m insideturningcircleand no extrawidth is necessaryfor a
headlandcomparedwiththe gun system.

For the first run, positionthe HoseReelwiththe drumcentrein the centreof the row
(straightpull) or wheeling(offsethose feed). (fig 1) DisconnectHose Reel and
returnto tow the boomalongthe headland.

Connecttractorto Boomdrawbarand tow towardsthe HoseReel. Turn into the row

or bed wheelingsnotingthe maximumlockon the Boomwhenthe checkchainsare
tight. Do not tr.rmtighterthan this or partsof the steeringsystemmay be bent. The
Bbom has ample steeringlock to ensureminimalcrop damageand the tractor
shouldbe turnedin a smootharc notingthe boomclearancein relationto the Hose
Reel.

The only differencewith the two tractoroperationis that the Hose Reel would be
movedjust beyondthe inigation run in order for the Boomto be positionedfirst"
The HoseReelis thenreversedintoposition.

When in the wheelings, tow forwardthe minimaldistancein orderfor the wheelsto

be perfecilystraight. Any anglemakesreversingunne@ssarily difficult. Lookonly
at the drawbarwhen reversingto keep straightas the wheelsare at half the true
angledue to the 4 wheelsteering.

Reversesufficientdistance- normallyapproximately 3m in orderfor the couplingon

the waterinletto be withinrangeof the layflatconnector.

EnsureHoseReelis set for pullingout and tow Boomto end of run. Do not apply
any steeringlock on the Boombeforedisconnecting the drawbar. The wheelsmust
be left straight. This is importantfor steeringaccuracy.

Disconnectand raise trailed drawbarclear of crop. Move tractorforwardat least

10mto clearBoomunfolding.

page 7
LAYFLATLINK BAR

The layflathose(whilstallowingflexibilityto connect)can allowthe HoseReel pipe

to twist, anglingthe stop fin over, causingcrop damage.lt can also cause the
stopfinto missthe stopmechanism on the hosereelwhichwill resultin damageto
boththe hosereeland boom.

To eliminatethis problem,the linkbar,carriedon the chassis(fig 5) is placedover

two verticalpins at each end of the layflatconnector. The layflathose needsto be
pulledin a straightline beforethe link can be fitted. This is normallydone at the
end of the run,but if the stopfin anglesoveron pullingout, thenthe link bar mustbe
fitted.

Fig5

The stopfin can be twistedto allowthe link bar to dropin place.(fig 6) The link bar
also stopsthe layflatkinkingif the Boommovesforwardon a downhillslope.

Instructions
for normaloperation

1. Fullyunfoldthe boomfollowing
the procedure
in the BoomManual
2: Connectthe 6m lengthsof hydraulichosebetweenthe tractorand thefemale
couplingon the boom.Operatethe spoolvalveon thetractorto pressurise the
systemandthe boomwill lift. lf the boomliftsunevenly
i.e.onecylinder startsto lift
beforethe otherthenfollowthe procedure belowotherwisego to step4.

3" The purposeof the valveis to equalisethe slavepartof the systemwiththe

mainpressurised system.lf the slavecylinderlagsbehindthe maincylinderthen
the boomshouldbe loweredto its bottompositionandthe valveopened.Whenthe
spoolvalveon the tractoris nowoperatedthe slavecylinderwill liftfirstbecausethe
mastercylinderis beingpressurised fromaboveand belowits piston.Whenthe 2
cylindersareworkingsimultaneously thevalveshouldthenbe closed,Thisthen
locksoff the slavesystemso that it is operatedonlyby the actionof the pistonin the
mastercylinder.lf the slavecylindergets"infront"of the mastercylinder thenthe
connection to the bottomof the slavecylindershouldbe loosened slightlyto allow
someoil outandto equalisethe heightsof the2 cylinders.

4: The 3 pairsof swingingcatchesallowthe boomto be operatedat eitherits

full liftor halfliftposition.Theseworkautomatically;
to engagethecatchesraisethe
boomuntilthecatchesare rotated,keepon liftingthe boomslowlyuntilbothcatches
are seento haveengaged.Thenlowerthe boomso that it sitsin the catches. The
weightof the boomis now beingheldby the catchesandthe hydraulichosecan be
removedfromthe tractorand boomandstowedon the bracketon the boom
chassis.

5: To releasethe boomfromthe catches, the boomis raisedjust enoughfor the

catchesto swingbackto theirnormalpositionandthenthe boomcan be lowered.lt
is importantto allowthe catchesto stopswingingbeforethe boomis lowered
becausefoulingof the catchesmayoccur. The intermediate catchesworkin exactly
the sameway as the top catches. lf eithersetsof the catchesdo notengageat the
sametimeit willbe necessary to performstep3 again,

6. To liftthe boomto its highestposition.Theboomis liftedup to the

intermediate positionand thenthe cylindersare retracted. The bottomcatcheswill
