Collision

 Impact between two moving vessels.

Allision

 Impact between one moving vessel and one stationary vessel.

Art. 827
If both vessels may be blamed for the collision, each one shall be liable for his own damages, and
both shall be jointly responsible for the losses and damages suffered by their cargoes.

Art. 828
The provisions of the foregoing article are applicable to the case in which it cannot be decided
which of the two vessels was the cause of the collision.

Presumption of negligence

 There is a presumption of fault against a moving vessel that strikes a stationary object such
as a dock or navigational aid.

Doctrine of last clear chance

 It is not applicable in collision when it cannot be determined who is at fault.

Contributory negligence

 It is also not applicable in collision because of Art. 828.
