- The variables in this study are the Factors and the student’s performance in qualifying examination.
The independent variable is the factors, and this include extrinsic and intrinsic. While the dependent
variable is the students’ performance, and it is the passed or failed.

- This study is conducted in PLV with the participation of BSA students as research respondents. Overall,
there are 182 respondents, who are chosen using stratified sampling. The researchers give them a
survey questionnaire through online to gather data.

- Other factors that affect the students’ performance; Effects of the qualifying examination to the
students; and Advantages and disadvantages of qualifying examination. This are the variables that will
not be included in the research.
SOP #3

Hypothesis HA: The extrinsic and intrinsic factors have a statistically significant relationship to the
performance of the BSA Students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela in Qualifying Examination.

H0: The extrinsic and intrinsic factors have no significant relationship to the performance of the BSA
Students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela in Qualifying Examination.

Extrinsic

As can be seen on table 9, the Rs sign stands for the coefficient relationship and the p-value is the
significance test. There is a significance test because quantifying a relationship between two variables
using the correlation coefficient only tells half of the story, because it measures only the strength of a
relationship in samples. The significance test tells us whether or not what we observe in the sample is
expected to be true in the population and can be conducted through a hypothesis test and that is why
there is a conclusion part in the table which will tell if the null hypothesis is to be rejected or not.

Overall, on the correlation coefficient, it can be seen that there is a strong positive correlation between
the factors and the student’s performance. It is strong because all the value is above 0.50, this is based
on Cohen’s (1998) standard.

On the significant test, Home-related and Educator-related both shows very strong evidence to reject
the null hypothesis of the study. This means that these two factors have a significant relationship to the
student’s performance or to the passers and non-passers. In the institution-related, only in the passer
side shows very strong evidence to reject the null hypothesis while on the other side shows weak
evidence to reject the null hypothesis. Lastly, on the educator related it also shows weak evidence on
both side, this means that this factor has no significant relationship to the student’s performance. Also,
it means that the coefficient relationship is not reliable.

Intrinsic

As can be seen on table 10, on the coefficient correlation side, it also shows a is a strong positive
correlation between the factors and the student’s performance. Only the psychological related factors
show on both side that there is very strong ang strong evidence to reject the null hypothesis which
means that there is a significant relationship between this factor to the student’s performance.

On the preparation related, on the passer side, there is very weak evidence to reject the null hypothesis
which means that the preparation related factor has no significant relationship to the passers. On the
contrary, on the failed or non-passer side, it has a significant relationship to the non-passer as it shows
strong evidence to reject the null hypothesis.

On the physical related, on the passer side, it shows strong evidence to reject the null hypothesis while
on the other side it shows weak evidence to reject the null hypothesis.

Overall, it must be noted that having a significant relationship means that the identified factor may
have an impact to the performance of the student during qualifying examination. However, the said
relationship does not mean that it will be the cause on getting the results from the qualifying
examination.
POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

Question 1: In few sentences, are you able to tell us what your study is all about? Briefly, explain what
your research project is all about?

The present study was conducted to identify the factors affecting the performance of students in
qualifying examination in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV), School Year 2021-2022. There
are 182 students who take qualifying examination were given survey questionnaire through online.
Findings of the study shows that Examination-related, Preparation-related, and psychological related
factors are very influential to the student’s performance, while the other factors are influential. Also,
findings shows that only home, educator and psychological related factors has a significant relationship
to both passers and non-passers. And examination related, shows no significant relationship to student’s
performance.

Question 2: what’s your motivation for this study? 1. Why did you choose this topic?

Since B.S. Accounting Technology is not available in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, those
students who failed the examination were left with no choice but to shift to other courses. Given this
situation, the researcher come up with the idea of studying the factors that affects students'
performance in Qualifying Examination. The Mission and Vision of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng
Valenzuela is to provide an efficient and effective institution of higher learning for human development
purpose and to produce skillful, productive, competent, competitive, civic-minded, and God loving
human resource. As part of this institution, the researchers aim to be part of the attainment of the said
mission and vision.

Question 3: How will this study contribute to the body of knowledge? In what way(s) does your
research project contributes to knowledge?

Question 4: What is the significance of the study?

Question 5: Did you bridge any gap from your study?

Question 6: What limitations did you encounter?

The limitation we encounter is reaching the respondents. We message them all personally through
messenger but only few responds. Despite of this, we manage to complete our required number of
respondents.

Question 7: What are your findings?

Findings of the study shows that Examination-related, Preparation-related, and psychological related
factors are very influential to the student’s performance, while the other factors are influential. Also,
findings shows that only home, educator and psychological related factors has a significant relationship
to both passers and non-passers. And examination related, shows no significant relationship to student’s
performance.
Question 8: What Methods or Sampling Technique did you employ? Why chooses this method?

There are 342 students who take the qualifying examination. The researchers utilized Raosoft’s software
from an online website with a 95% confidence level and 5% margin of error for computing number of
samples, a total of 182 samples were determined. The researchers use stratified sampling for selecting
the respondents.

According to Iliyasu & Etikan (2021), stratified sampling means choosing a subset of the population
based on classification and random selection. The researchers believed that using this sampling
technique, different responses from passers and non-passers each year provided the most accurate
information to achieve the objective of this study which is to determine the factors which affect
students’ performance in Qualifying Examination.

To ensure reliability of respondents’ selection and avoid bias, the researcher utilized proportionate
sampling in which the overall percentage of passer (54%) and non-passer (46%) where use to calculate
the population.

Question 9. What research methodology did you use? Why did you use that research methodology?

Accordingly, Creswell (2009) said that selecting a research design, it is influenced by the study's research
issue, the researcher's own experiences, and audiences for whom the study will be presented. The
study's research purpose is to know what factors influencing BSA students' performance in qualifying
examinations and their relationship. Thus, they employ correlational research. Correlational research is
a type of research that involves keeping records of two variables in order to find a significant statistical
relationship between both (Formplus Blog, n.d.). This design looked what is the relationship of the
independent variable, extrinsic and intrinsic factors, to the dependent variable which is the student’s
performance on qualifying examination.

Question #. In hindsight should you have used a different methodology? (Beware they may be looking
for you to dig a hole for yourself to invalidate your conclusions and analysis.)

NO.

Question #. Would you have discovered anything else if you had used a different approach?

Yes. And that is for future researchers to use.

Question 10. Why do you think your research is reliable?

Question 11. Why do you think your research is valid?

Question #. What is the strongest point in your project?

Question 12: How can your research study be put into practice?
Question 13: How would you summarize your study to a practitioner during a few sentences?

Question 14: What would you modify if you were to conduct the study again? If you could change
something regarding your study, what would it be?

Question #. How do you know that what you have found is right?

Question #. What is the weakest part of your work?

Question 15: what’s your measurement Instrument?

The researchers utilized only survey questionnaire that were validated by the validator, and they were
given to the participants through online.

Question 16: What are your research variables?

The variables in this study are the Factors and the student’s performance in qualifying examination. The
independent variable is the factors, and this include extrinsic and intrinsic. They are the independent
because they are controllable. While the dependent variable is the students’ performance, and it is the
passed or failed. As opposite to independent, they are not controllable.

Question 19: What source of knowledge was employed for the study?

Question 20: What theories or theoretical framework is your study based on?

Question 21: How would you relate your findings to existing theories on the study?

Question 22: What recommendations does one have for future research?

Other factors not included in this study could be investigated in future studies to see whether they have
any influence on BSA students’ performance on the qualifying examination.

Question 25: does one have any closing comments?
