1. Analyze the irony: Steve Irwin, “The Crocodile Hunter,” lived what he enjoyed doing best, getting up close
and personal to some dangerous and non-dangerous animals. He was an Australian television personality,
wildlife expert, and conservationist. He and his wife also ran a zoo in Australia. Irwin died after being stabbed
in the chest by a stingray while filming an underwater documentary film entitled Ocean's Deadliest.

2. Analyze the irony: Bill Gates is the former president and CEO of Microsoft, a computer software company.
He is consistently ranked one of the world’s wealthiest people, and was the overall wealthiest person from 1995

amounts of money to schools, HIV research, libraries, etc. Bill Gates just won a contest in which the prize is an
expensive computer system.

3. Analyze the irony: Darcy was excited about the costume party all week. But when her mother came home
with a costume, Darcy just stared at it. She could never wear something as lame as a fuzzy bunny costume! At
the party, Darcy's face burned. Her friends came as cool rock stars and movie monsters. She felt stupid and
knew everyone would laugh at her during the costume contest. All of the rock star and movie monster costumes
seemed the same, so the judges chose Darcy’s bunny costume as the most original. She won the grand prize!

4. Analyze the irony: During the Salem Witch Trials, many men and women were accused of being witches.
The local reverend tried to convince many of the accused to confess to being witches. If they confessed their
guilt, their lives would be spared. If they claimed they were innocent and refused to confess to being a witch,
they were hanged or crushed to death by stones. Over twenty people died because they refused to plead guilty.
