SEASON 6

ISSUE 6 (60)
13. Vertical sums 7
Write in the table numbers from 1 to 19, placing each next number
to the right in the same row, or somewhere in the next row. Two-
digit numbers must be written in two neighbouring cells. Numbers
cannot touch each other by the sides of cells
Example:
they're in. Numbers at bottom of the grid show
the sums of digits in corresponding columns. 1 2 3
Answer key: write down the content of column, 4 5 6
holding "0", working downwards, replacing 7 8
the empty cells with "-". For the example the 9 1 0
answer would be: -6-0-3. 1 1
1 2 1 3
7 12 13 4 13 7 17 2 14 11 9 15 11 6 5 9

14. Rotlections ≤ 8
Cut the table along vertical and horisontal grid lines onto some
symmetrical pieces, so that after rotation and/or reflections of all those
pieces they stayed in their places and formed single closed painted
stripe, not touching itself, bordered
Example:
only by vertical and diagonal grid
lines.
Answer key: describe the table row
by row, from top to bottom, replacing
the cells, occupied with the same
pieces, by the same letters. For
example the answer would be:
AAAAAA, AAAAAA, BBBBAA, BCCCAA, BCCCAA, BCCCAA. Solution with the smallest number of
pieces will bring 8 points, second best solution will bring 5 points, third best - 2 points.

15. 1-2-3 ≤ 8
Draw the closed single loop, not touching itself, using only 4 shown elements, which can be rotated,
but cannot be reflected. The loop must
begin and end in pointed knot. Elements
cannot overlap. Each use of digit-formed
element adds the corresponding value (1, 2
or 3) to your total. First use of short element
reduces your total by 1, second - by 2 and Example:
so on. Maximize your total.
Answer key: first write down your total,
followed by digital sequence starting from
point. Replace short elements by "-". For
example the answer would be: 10: 233-
-311. Best answer brings 8 points; each
next answer will bring one point less.
