What’s In – Activity 1

Website Name: Janrick (Blog)

URL: https://janrickreal.blogspot.com/

I.

1. Holistic look of the website (Does it look [5] – Overall the site looks professional though it does
professional?) look quite casual.
2. Navigation (Is the navigation easy to use? [4] – Yes, everything is relatively easy to spot though
Do the links work?) some parts lack contrast.
3. Content (Does it have relevant content?) [5] – Absolutely, the content of the site is diverse and
Is the information adequate?) has a lot of interesting topics.
4. Correctness (Is the site free from errors?) [3] – I can’t say the site is perfect since there are some
posts wherein there are grammatical errors and such,
but I can say that the site is very neat and decent.
5. Images (Are there images that are related [5] – Yes, every image is tantamount or on par with
to the site? Are they displayed correctly?) the written content.
6. User Experience (Does the site offer [4] – The site is very simple and easy to use, though I
several ways to contact the owners?) do think it needs a bit of creativity when it comes to
its layout and design.

II. & III.

The website is generally quite simple and user-friendly for it was mainly designed just for
academic purposes. To reiterate, not all websites are perfect (although there are a few that may just be
better than some). Janrick’s site is indeed clean, concise, and straightforward, but because of this, the
site looks like it lacks certain color due to the site being unembellished. Yes, simplicity is good, but for
my tastes, I find that it doesn’t work all the time.

Not only does the site need to work on its decorative features (such as the font style, contrast,
color scheme, etc.), but as well as the small grammatical and punctuational errors it has (though this is
only if the site owner wants his site to be more outstanding). If he sees that the site is okay enough and
deemed fit him, then I shall no longer criticize his layout. Not to mention that the shown layout is solely
based on one of the blogging website or blogger’s themes – which can be accessed when you want to
begin making a blog for your own. Though a bit unoriginal, the site was made for academic purposes
anyways. Overall, if I were to rate the site, I’d give it a 6.5/10.

WEEK 2

What’s In
What I Have Learned

1. The internet, wireless networks, computers, cell phones, and other communication devices are
all examples of Information and Communication Technology, or in abbreviated terms, ICT.
Because of this, everything a person may do will be relatively easier and more efficient with the
help of ICT. Not only does ICT help us in a day-to-day basis, but it also plays a key role in
Philippine history as it becomes component of certain Philippine historical accounts. The
assistance of ICT throughout history made communication and everything in the media possible
today.

2. Some social platforms that played an important role in the events of Philippine history would be
platforms such as News media and Broadcast media. News is information about current events.
This may be provided through many different media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems,
broadcasting, electronic communication, or through the testimony of observers and witnesses
to events. On the other hand, broadcast media includes information transmitted through one of
several mass communication channels, such as television and radio.

3. Change. org's stated mission is to "empower people everywhere to create the change they want
to see." Popular topics of Change.org petitions are economic and criminal justice, human rights,
education, environmental protection, animal rights, health, and sustainable food. Each
contribution helps cover the costs of distributing the petition to hundreds, thousands, even
millions more people in the Change.org community, many of whom go on to sign the petition.
Together, the signatures help the petition gain media attention, influence decision-makers, and
propel the petition toward victory.

4. Social platforms can help sway the opinions of others due to the compelling articles, journals,
blogs, media, and such that they may read or hear especially if it is online. This is more-so true if
the person reads the opinions or comments of other people. If an individual is gullible enough to
bask himself in the world of sensitive media, that may become a threat to his beliefs. An
example would be when a child first finds himself in the world of the internet. If the child gets to
the wrong side of the net and reads incorrect and false things throughout their life, they might
as well grow up believing false ideals. In layman terms, this is called self-indoctrination.

5. By the definition of the word itself, the word “platform” is described as an environment in which
a piece of software is executed. Furthermore, it is an ‘opportunity’ or ‘tool’ to make your ideas
or beliefs known publicly. With the assistance of social media platforms, users are able to create,
share content and find and connect with other users. Not only that, but because users are able
to share most contents in any given platform, a lot of topics or ideas are quick to go on trend in
media. Take for example celebrity gossips you may find online, rumor or not, people like to
make up stories whether it has a strong or weak basis to it. And because of this, when a story is
intriguing or interesting to the mass, the topic at hand will more or less likely be spread quickly
throughout the media.
