Practice Target 1b

1. As a receptionist for a veterinarian, one of Dolores’s tasks is to schedule appointments. She allots 20
minutes for a routine o ce visit and 40 minutes for a surgery. The veterinarian cannot do more than 6
surgeries per day. The o ce has 7 hours available for appointments. If an o ce visit costs $55 and most
surgeries cost $125, nd a combination of o ce visits and surgeries that will maximize the income the
practice receives per day.

a. Write a system of inequalities and then graph. Write out the vertices of the feasible region.

b. Find the vertex that maximizes the function f (x, y) = 55x + 125y

2. A tax consultant is looking to update their closet space with a new ling system. File cabinet “xtreme”
costs $10 and takes up 6 square feet. File cabinet “yaboi” costs $20, takes up 8 square feet, and hold 12
cubic feet worth of les. The o ce space has a total of 72 square feet and they do not want to spend more
than $140.

a. Write a system of inequalities and then graph. Write out the vertices of the feasible region.

b. If Xtreme holds a volume of 8 cubic feet and Yaboi hold 12 cubic feet, write a function for the total
pro t on the bags and determine which combination maximizes their volume?

3. The Wilson Booster club runs the concession stands at our football games. In order for them to make
money to donate to the school, they must sell at least 10 hamburgers but they can not cook more than 40.
They also must sell at least 30 hot dogs, but can not cook more than 70. The concessions can not cook more
than 90 items during a game.

a. Write a system of inequalities and then graph. Write out the vertices of the feasible region.

b. If the pro t made on a hamburger is 33 cents and a hotdog is 21, write a function for the total pro t on
the food and determine which combination maximizes their money?

4. You are about to take a test that contains questions of type A worth 4 points and type B worth 7 points.
You must answer at least 4 of type A and 3 of type B, but time restricts answering more than 10 of either type.
In total, you can answer no more than 18.

a. Write a system of inequalities and then graph. Write out the vertices of the feasible region.

b. How many of each type of question must you answer, assuming all of your answers are correct, to
maximize your score? What is your maximum score?

5. In order to ensure optimal health and accurate test results, a lab tech needs to feed the rabbits a daily diet
containing a minimum of 24 g of fat, 36 g of carbs, and 4 g of protein. The rabbits should be fed no more than
5 oz of food a day. Rather than order rabbit food that is custom blended, it is cheaper to order food “X’s and
Oh’s” and food “Yummy Bunny” and blend them for an optimal mix. X’s and Oh’s contains 8 g of fat, 12 g of
carbs, and 2 g of protein per oz. Yummy Bunny has 12 g of fat, 12 g carbs, and 1 g protein per oz.

a. Write a system of inequalities and then graph. Write out the vertices of the feasible region.

b. If X’s and Oh’s cost 20 cents per oz and Yummy Bunny costs 30 cents, write a function that represents
the cost of the food and minimize the cost. What is the optimal blend of food?

1) 9 o ce visits and 6 surgeries maximize the income. 2) 8 Xtreme le cabinets and 3 Yaboi le cabinets maximize the volume of
storage. 3) The boosters need to sell 40 hamburgers and 50 hotdogs to raise the most money. 4) The max score is 102 by taking 8
type A and 10 type B. 5) The lab tech should feed them 3 oz of X’s and Oh’s to be most cost e ective and hit the nutritional needs.
