To understand the management and function of irganization we visited Alfalah Bank Limited.
We asked somed Question regarding their history, vision, mission, values, organizational
stuctual, their strategies, code of ethics and HR management.
We take an interview from the manager of Alfalah Bank Mr. Minhaj Ud Din Khattak.
Mr.Khattak gave us information about Alfalah Bank Limited due to some restrictions he
only gave us information about certain or the few elements of Alfalah Bank Limited.

History of Alfalah Bank

Bank Alfalah Limited was


launched on June 21, 1992 as a
public limited company under the
Companies Ordinance 1984.
The bank commenced its
operations on November 1, 1997.
The bank introduced
commercial banking and related
services as defined in
the Banking companies
ordinance, 1962.

Bank Alfalah is the fifth largest private Bank in Pakistan with a network of over 600 branches
in more than 200 cities across Pakistan with an international presence in Bangladesh,
Afghanistan, Bahrain and a representative office in the UAE. The Bank is owned and
operated by the Abu Dhabi Group. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World
Bank partnered with the Bank in 2014, and holds a 15 percent stake in Bank Alfalah.
Incorporated as a public limited company on 21st June, 1992, under the Companies
Ordinance, 1984, Bank Alfalah commenced banking operations from 1st November, 1997.
The Bank provides financial solutions to consumers, corporations, institutions and
governments through a broad spectrum of products and services, including corporate and
investment banking, consumer banking and credit, securities brokerage, commercial, SME,
agri-finance, Islamic and asset financing.
JCR-VIS has assigned an entity rating of ‘AA+’ (double A plus) for the long-term and ‘A1+’
(A one plus) for the short-term, with a stable outlook. PACRA has assigned Bank Alfalah
‘AA+’ (double A plus) entity rating for the long-term and ‘A1+’ (A one plus) for the short-
term, with a positive outlook. The Bank is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The Bank has 61.20 percent shareholding in Alfalah Securities (Private) Limited, which is
engaged in the business of stock brokerage, investment counseling and fund placements. The

Bank has 40.22 percent shareholding in Alfalah GHP Investment Management Limited,
which is registered as an Asset Management Company and Investment Advisor under the
Non-Banking Finance Companies (Establishment and Regulation) Rule.

Q: Sir Can you give us brief information about Organizational Structural of Alfalah?

The management structure is headed by the chief executive officer. In the absence of CEO,
the Chief Operating officer officiates as acting CEO and the Chairmen if Central
Management Committee or Central Credit Committee of the bank.
The Chief Operating Officer directly reports to the CEO of the bank. In the absence of CEO,
COO will Officiates as CEO.
The branch network of Islamic Banking is headed by Group Head Islamic Banking and the
branch network of conventional banking is headed by Group Head Retail Banking.
The following executives will directly report to the office of CEO, with the exception of
Head – Audit and inspection Group.

Introduction & Background of HR Strategy


Introduction
Strategy human resources management at Bank to Alfalah is linked to the overall strategy of
the institution. By playing the role of a strategic partner and a change agent, HR & Learning
Group of the bank aims to provide all unit with an effective workface, ensure that all
employees have ample opportunities for learning and development, and to act as an adviser to
the field management, helping them in keeping all employees happy, motivated and
productive.
Objective
The objective of this strategy paper is to document the strategic direction of HR & learning
Group, outlining step that need to be taken to ensure that the institutional objective are
achieved. From this standpoint the HR strategy is directly linked with the organization’s
overall objectives.

Element of HR strategy
Recruitment
Aim to induct the right people, with the right skills, in the right place at the right time. This
aspect of HR job is crucial for attainment of organizational objectives. This will be achieved
in three ways.
By inducting substantial number of fresh graduates every year under the Management
Trainee Officers, Counter Services Officers and Sales Officers batches.
By systematically inducting experienced bankers as and when needed, through a centralized
recruitment system, using the Bank’s Recruitment Portal, advertising in papers and using
head hunters for senior positions.
By implementing appropriate selection tests and interviews at junior levels and panel
interviews at senior levels.

Training and Development


Training and development of staff is considered to be crucial importance for Bank Alfalah’s
long term sustainable growth.
In order to insure that skill levels of all BAL team members are at optimal levels, detailed
plans are prepared to meet training needs of the entire staff of the Bank. Much of the training
is to be conducted in house, while the rest (especially for senior levels), is to be outsourced,
using high quality local and international training provides.
Compensation and Benefits
They need to ensure that our salary package and benefits are in line with the market. Towards
this end. The Bank participates in a recognized benchmarking survey periodically.
Performance Management System
A performance based, just and fair Performance Management System is in place, under
which supervising officers evaluate performance of their people based on pre-agreed targets,
covering multi-pronged performance criteria.
Retention & Motivation of Employees
The biggest challenge they face in the coming year in retaining top talent within the
organization. Efforts in this area will focus on the following HR action.

They shared their dress coat courtesy, manner and punctuality.
Dress code
Dress coat for all male employees of the Bank is suit and necktie. Employees may national\
smart casual dress on Friday. Female employees should also dress elegantly, keeping in mind
cultural norms of the country where they are based, without being ostentatious.
Non-clerical staff i.e. messengers. Security guards, office boys, machine operators,
maintenance staff will always be in uniform.
Courtesy and Manners
Employees of bank Alfalah will maintain utmost courtesy and exemplary manners when
interacting with client or with each other. Any violations of this code should be brought to the
attention of supervising official as well as the HR & Learning Group for their information,
record and remedial or disciplinary action.
Q: what are strategies that Alfalah follows in case of any mismanagement?
Minhaj Ud Din Khattak: in case of harassment or any other issue we have our protection
polices to provide safeguard to our employees especially of women. Bank Alfalah is destined
to provide its employees, irrespective of gender and without prejudices, a working
environment where they feel completely secure and satisfied to perform at the optimum level.
Being an equal opportunity employer the Bank provides a progressive environment for all its
employees to progress and contribute regardless of their cast, creed, religion or gender.
Female employees from a formidable work force of the bank and essentially deserve
complete protection.
Abuse of Authority
Demand by a person in authority for sexual favors in order to provide job related benefits in
any shape.
Creating a hostile environment
Unwelcoming sexual advance or any other verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature
causing interference, intimidation, hostile or offensive work environment.
Mr. Khattak told us that Alfalah is the only Bank in Pakistan which give a 6 months
maternity leaves to women. It also give medical assistance to parents of their employees.

Learning & Development Polices


This frameworks is designed by the Learning and Development Division in Human
Recourses in line with the business and learning objective of BSFL and best practices with a
focus on capacity building and continuous skill improvement. All the formal learning
programs which may be effectively delivered through the combination of in-house, external

(local and international) and mobile learning programs, wherever possible will fall under the
ambit of these policy parameters.

Q: In case of any threat what are strategies of Alfalah to handle such a situation?
Mr. Khattak we spend millions to protect our information so, there is no possibility of any
error or any other situation like hacking.

Conclusion
From this interview section we come to know about Alfalah Bank and its strategies and
benefits which they provide to their employees and to their customer. Staff of Alfalah Bank
limited were cooperative. It was a good experience to visit Alfalah Bank Limited and to
