Critical Reflection

1) Objectives and Integrating Theory

The inclination to suffer from emotional problems begins from the maternal stage and is

reinforced in childhood. Natasha Campbell is a survivor who advocates about real issues beyond

an individual's struggle with substance abuse. The interview presents generational trauma,

systematic issues, discrimination, injustice, violation of children's rights, trauma, abuse, and

abandonment.

Harm reduction sites are places where people find free judgment acceptances, it is place

that opens the door to people who suffer from severe addictions and promotes clean syringes that

help reduce infections such as HIV that are easily transmitted. Remarkably, this support group

was the one that helped Campbell to get better and try to recover. Harm reduction encircles

interventions, programs, and guidelines. Harm reduction looks to mitigate the harm suffered by

drug use monitoring and prevention. I acknowledge that mental health problems require

professional intervention and must be diagnosed by a certified professional.

2) Practical Skills

Confidentiality, and Empathy are a virtue that helps us connect with people and enables

us to get into the other person's position/feeling. It is well known how gratifying it is for human

beings to feel useful, to know that our existence and effort serve someone.

3) Ethical Considerations

The ethical consideration regarding this case is the well-being of children. I mentioned

this because I realized some children and youth are exposed to or abused in their own homes

by relatives. In addition, at the age of 18, she was already working in a body house.

(Campbell, 2022, 19:55). How is it possible that at 18 years of age is working in a body

house? How can this be called legal? I think this topic continues to be underestimated by our

society. Furthermore, the educational system advocates for medication as the only

alternative. So, where are the institutions created to teach, guide, discipline, and care for our

most vulnerable members?

4) Values and Reflexivity

Humans' self-determination goes beyond understanding, and I saw that in Natasha's life.

Despite having suffered unfairly, it is admirable to see people trying to recover and seek a

second chance. Harm reduction alternatives, strategies, and approaches can help people deal

better with substance abuse as they are not restricted to anyone. After watching the video, my

passion for advocating and caring for children was reinforced. It is essential to encourage and

empower citizens to design strategies and plans according to their local needs and contexts. I

learn the importance of non being judgmental with my future clients.
